Cyberpunk 2077

I loved this experience a lot, up until I encountered a bug which prevents me finishing it. After how much I had emotionally invested in my character and the story discovering I literally cannot finish the game has left an extremely bad taste. I reported this issue in early January, was told the team were aware of the issue. I stopped playing till a patch was released. 1.1 does not address the issue at all. I cannot in good conscience recommend this game. My advice to anyone is to wait a year at least before purchasing. I look forward to updating my review once the game has been finished.

When I designed my character and the game kept jumping to the top slider instead of changing my eyebrows, tattoos, ..., I knew I was in for a ride. First of all, a quick disclaimer: I have not played much of the main story so far but only finished most of the side quests and random encounters in Watson. I did not enjoy doing so. Why? First of all, because my frame rate is awful, to put it mildly. I am running a Ryzen 5 1600, 32GB RAM clocked at 2933MHz and a 1060 6 GB. I should be able to run the game at High settings according to the reccomended hardware. I can absolutely not do that. While I can put anisotropic filtering to 16x, Textures to High and Shadows to High, this is only due to the high amount of RAM I have at my disposal. Even with everything else on Low or outright disabled I usually have no more than 40-45 frames running around Night City - without fighting anyone. There are quite a few games out there that are 5+ years old and look much better on my PC than Cyberpunk does on the max settings I can run it. Very disappointing already. Now, the game world. It is hollow and shallow. Quite a few parts of Night City are not accessible, and those that are fail to deliver a feeling of belonging. For example I could not care less about V's apartment. Never mind the fact that, unlike initially promised, there are no other safehouses or apartments you can buy or own. NPCs behave very weirdly; jumping down next to them triggers their fear animation and them running away. Starting a fistfight with a juiced up weightlifter causes them to cover in fear albeit being thrice your size, including his pals of the same size running away. Cars will not drive around your vehicles if you block the road, even after hours of ingame time. You can't visit any bars, brothels, restaurant or anything like that while exploring the city. Even San Andreas would allow you to hit the gym and work out. Cyberpunk doesn't. There is much more, but I am running out of characters. Laters.

I've never taken the time to post a review here. I regret that now, as my rather short review that follows is not so positive. But I was really, really looking forward to playing this game... Great story, visual and aural immersion end up fading into the background when gameplay continuity is continually interrupted by what appears to be either unfinished or slipshod AI. I was really looking forward to playing this game (Did I already say that?). When Brad Chacos rated it better than Deus Ex, I thought I was really in for a treat. (Really, Brad???) But calling a game better than Deus Ex simply because newer, more powerful tech enables much cooler visual/aural environment waaay oversteps the mark. Whatever happened to -- and I quote roughly -- 'We'll release it when it's finished.'? There is absolutely NO way this game was released in a finished state. The visual/aural environment may well be finished but, as to world interaction, gameplay and AI??? You've GOT to be kidding me. For starters, I could STILL call the game passable if not for the Night City PD AI! The game could still get by on its own merits, if not for this. It is an incessant reminder of either how unfinished the game really is, or extremely lazy AI coding. In point of fact, I was only JUST NOW playing the game, when I was involved in an incident; one from which I was well capable of extricating myself, when I was suddenly surrounded by NCPD -- humans, drones and robots, which appeared from the ether! And they will attempt to spawn from the most unbelievable places. Unbelievably frustrating, and unacceptable! It absolutely ruins the gameplay. For now, this is my very major gripe. I could go on, but I have a game to try to finish. To CD Projekt Red: It is simply not worth releasing an unfinished game for its short-term benefits. How much time in development did you spend on this game, only to release it in what is, in my opinion, an unfinished state?

CD Projekt straight up lied about this game. Not a good RPG and lackluster openworld.

I'm just sad. I gave CDP a gread credit of trust, got the collectors edition way ahead of time, because they did such a great job with TW series. What we got is worse than alpha leaked half-life2 (anyone remembers these days?) There are plenty nice details, but the big picture is just falling apart.
