Symptoms

Ayame Itou is just your average junior in high school. Or at least…she thinks she is. In truth, she can’t remember much about herself at all. She didn’t even remember her name until she saw it on her patient record. See, she just found herself waking from a coma, alone and in the dark, strapped to an operating table in a hospital called “Amare Patriarcha Crucis.” The hospital has been ransacked, by the looks of it – papers strewn everywhere, gurneys and boxes piled up in the halls, and not a soul in sight. And the outside exits are all either locked up tight or sealed off with steel shutters. She is completely alone and trapped…at first.

It’s not long before she discovers that there are others in the hospital with her, however. Some are friends, trapped here just as Ayame has been. Others are foes: the ones who trapped her here, and who now appear to mean her physical harm. And still others are savage, inhuman monstrosities that shouldn’t even exist in this world.

Ayame must now piece together the mystery of what happened in Amare Patriarcha Crucis, how she came to be lying comatose within its walls, and perhaps most importantly…how to escape with her life.

Set five years after the events of Corpse Party: Blood Drive, Dead Patient represents the start of a brand new storyline for the Corpse Party series: standalone, yet still building upon what’s come before. Do you have what it takes to survive the most harrowing treatment of them all?

Diagnosis

Brand New Episodic Horror
This time it’s not an otherworldly elementary school, but a quarantined hospital full of bloodthirsty zombies, supernatural monsters, and scornful shades of the departed upon which our story opens. Play through Chapter 1 of the Dead Patient saga, then try your hand at the included Extra Chapter 1 for another take on the story from the perspective of an old Heavenly Host acquaintance.

Original Indie Team’s Return to PC
The same team responsible for the 2008 Windows PC edition of Corpse Party is back to deliver the series’ most polished experience yet, with top-down 3D graphics featuring dynamic lighting, 360° control, emotional Japanese voice-acting, and one of series composer Mao Hamamoto’s moodiest soundtracks to date. Tweaked and updated several times since its initial release in 2012, this newest version of Chapter 1 – titled Corpse Party: Dead Patient NEUES; in Japan – incorporates suggestions from fans, updated features first introduced in Corpse Party: Blood Drive, revamped boss battles, additional story scenes, and a whole other perspective on the story via Extra Chapter 1. And this is only the beginning!

More to See and Do, and All New Characters to Do it With
Items can be equipped and used directly on the environment to solve puzzles, or held and used in Ayame’s hand to perform various functions. Ayame can also run, toss objects to distract pursuers, hide in cabinets, and more. There are even proper boss battles, for the first time since the series’ PC-98 debut in 1996! Add to this a standalone story featuring an all-new set of dramatis personae, but with numerous call-backs to the Heavenly Host story arc for returning series fans, and Dead Patient becomes the start of an exciting new era in this now storied and infamous horror franchise!

A lot of potential... and that's all

Dead Patient has a great setting and an intriguing plot, but this is just Chapter 1, and barely a taste. The game literally ends right when it should be picking up, so it really can't afford to end here. The gameplay is more of the same from Blood Drive, so whether that's good or not depends on that. It's mostly running from idiotic zombies, but there's the occasional fun(if super simple) puzzle in between, which are usually my favorite parts of the game. The music and sound design is A+... except for the voice acting. CP1 had full VA, this game barely has any in comparison. I can't imagine why they skimped on the VA budget in Dead Patient, and it really shows. The characters themselves? Yeeesh. Mostly caricatures with spikes of interesting story, but for every bit of interesting plot, you have characters fretting over their undergarments or where to find toilet paper. (I wish I was kidding.) The tasteless humor is a massive tonal clash to the otherwise creeping-dread atmosphere of Dead Patient, and it's a shame. Hopefully 2 is more of the good and less of the bad, but since this game out in *2003*, it could be a while. I hope not, though. They've had plenty of time.

Waste of time

You're paying over $5 for something that will take you around an hour or two to finish and ends when the story becomes the slightest bit interesting. All that has been added to the game since the original 2013 release of the Japanese version is an even shorter extra chapter that does little to make for the lack of content. It shouldn't take over 7 years to finish a game like this. You may enjoy it if you have a high tolerance for mediocre horror games. I can't really say much else good about it. It deserves a lower score, but at least it works properly.

but a foretaste for things to come ...

Okay, I loved the first Corpse Party Game. The second one - Book of Shadows - was sort of okayish - to much of a VN for my taste. And I really enjoyed Blood Drive - so ... what about Dead Patient? Urgh - as much as I hate to say it ... the game left me hanging in the air by the end. Just, when the story became really interesting, it simply ends. And until now - there´s no news when a new chapter will release. And we should keep in mind, that Chapter One was released in Japan back in 2013. I really, really hope, that there is more to come. What to say about the game itself? Well, if you´ve played Blood Drive, then you can expect more of the same - at least gameplay wise: outrun (stupid as heck) zombies, solve (way to easy) puzzles, and first of all: enjoy the superb atmosphere. The atmosphere - I can´t help ... it doesn´t feel like a Corpse Party game. It much more reminds me of Silent Hill - don´t know why. And as usual: sound and music are really, really neat ... i´d say most of the atmosphere is thanks to the sound design. Sadly, that doesn´t apply to the voice acting. While Corpse Party and Blood Drive had full VA, this one has only a few sentences and words. I really hope, that following chapters will improve in this. I still like the game, but first of all, I hope that Chapter 2 won´t need 6 years to surface.

Excited For Chapter 2

This game, seems to have a lot of potential. For Most of the time I was playing it I was on the edge of my seat due to its well done atmosphere and unsettling environment. Toward the end of chapter 1 you make a choice, to keep things spoiler free I wont say anything about the choice that you have to make, but what I will say is after making the choice I made I now want to go back and play it again to see what would happen if I made a different choice. Ether way the ending I got for my first play through leaves me excited for the 2nd chapter and I eagerly await its release.

Extremely short for the price you pay

I got this game a few days ago and it's extremely short for the price you pay. This game ends exactly where it should be taking off and you wonder wth happened. I truly wish this game was far longer because it certainly can be enjoyable, but for the price I paid it just isn't really worth it.
