Another great story by Sam Lake and co
If I had to appraise the game solely on its story I would give it solid 5 stars without hesitation. Once again Remedy have created yet another compelling script for us to follow in the familiar format of interactive movie. Storywise everything gets high marks - atmosphere, characters, plot, the small references here and there and all the collectable reading materials. And when we're talking about atmosphere there is no way that I can skip mentioning the incredible level design backed by the gorgeous game engine. That being said, the only place the game falls short is game mechanics. I guess with the intent of creating different strategies for playthrough, Remedy have come up with a skill/weapon system that seems bloated and mostly redundant. I've completed the game with a very limited variety of weapon/personal mods. I really didn't feel any benefit from most of the weapons and special powers. In fact some of those were downright harmful almost every time I used them. So replaying the game for a different combat experience isn't something I would be doing. I'm deducting a full star for this wasted effort. P.S. I also feel that the AWE DLC was a missed opportunity to have shadow soldiers from Alan Wake using the same combat mechanics with light from the titular game.

Gut, aber mit vielen Macken
Eigentlich macht das Spiel echt Spaß, aber es hat schon ziemlich viele Macken, und die will ich mal aufzählen. 1. Die Kämpfe, vor allem aber die Bosskämpfe, sind teilweise schlicht unfair. Jessy, die Hauptdarstellerin, überlebt von manchen Angriffen nur 2 Schuss. Das wäre OK, aber Gegner spawnen mitunter hinter einem, sie teleporten sich, sie fliegen, sie nutzen Granaten mit Zeitzünder, ich erinnere mich an einen Boss der den Boden zerstört hat und man in den Tod stürzte.... Hektisch und teils zu hart. 1.1 Ach ja hektisch. Alle Waffen und Fähigkeiten haben Ressourcen, die gilt es während der Kämpfe auch noch im Auge zu behalten. 2. Mitunter sucht man den letzten Gegner, oder das letzte xyz und findet es einfach nicht. Dann sucht man minutenlang und es baut sich Frust auf. 3. Die Karte ist ausgesprochen verwirrend, was daran liegt dass sie mehrere Level in der Höhe hat, diese aber nicht anständig markiert sind. 4. Ich hasse Spiele mit begrenztem Inventar. Macht so etwas bei WOW & co. gerade so noch Sinn frage ich micht warum das bei einem singleplayer shooter nötig war. 5. Es lässt sich fast alles aufrüsten und man muss mehr Zeit in diesen Shooter stecken als er es wert wäre. Wer will schon aus 100 Items den besten Build für einen singleplayer herausfinden? 6. Die Story..... Ich kann noch eine Stunde weitermachen. Das Spiel ist gut, und meine Empfehlung geht in die Richtung: Cheats einschalten und Story erleben und dann deinstallieren. In meinen Augen kein Zeitloser klassiker, auch wenn die Kombination aus Schsweben, Flucht und Schleudern echt cool ist.

I only wish I'd played this sooner
- Environment/Setting: phenomenal - Gameplay: brutally satisfying - Story: mysterious, chill-inducing, engaging Beyond Two Souls meets The Force Unleashed and by the end that comparisons fade: Control is and does its own thing & I'm gladly pay for any future DLC/expansion/sequel, can't wait!

Fairly good game. Abilities are cool. Combat is fun. Story is way too convoluted. Game is a bit too grindy. Graphics are great.
