BloodRayne 2: Terminal Cut Ultimate Update
Rayne returns to her updated second adventure. In addition to language and sound improvements, this patch introduces a rebalanced boss fight with Ephemera in the Twisted Garden to better match the experience players remember from the console version.
Update Features
Ephemera boss fight rebalanced
Restoration of missing music and audio tracks
Improved graphical fidelity for bonus materials
Russian language localization improvements
Miscellaneous bug fixes
Enhanced and updated for modern systems by the game's original developers, this is the definitive edition of BloodRayne 2.
BloodRayne is a dhampir, born from the unnatural union of vampire and human. Blessed with the powers of a vampire but cursed with the unquenchable thirst for blood and a weakness to sunlight, Rayne is challenged with her most personal battle yet as she hunts down her siblings. They have banded together and pledged to carry on their father's legacy of creating a new era of vampire supremacy where humans are mere cattle.
With new acrobatic movements and rail sliding, fast-paced blade and gun combat, fatal finishing moves, more dhampir powers like time control, and an extensive combo system, BloodRayne 2 is a brutally satisfying continuation of the iconic series.
Features and enhancements of the Terminal Cut edition, created by the game’s original development team:
Support for higher display resolutions (up to 4K / 3840x2160).
Upscaled cinematic videos
Support for modern gamepads (XInput)
Improved rendering with up to 4x anti-aliasing
Improved lighting with higher resolution light maps
Support for higher texture resolutions, allowing for use of uncompressed original textures
The update does make the game look better, but the game mechanics are janky and not that fun when using a mouse and keyboard. Still If you like Vampire games you could do worse...
Combat is satisfying once you learn how to time your attacks, manage your health and ammo. Navigation will make you want to punch yourself in the head in my opinion, but this battle I mentioned is absurd. As the battle traps you in a room in a tower where you need to destroy 4 large devices. You can't break these devices. So, you must use a large enemy trying to kill you to break them. The problem is the enemy has been used before, and that enemy is met to be engaged quickly as he kills you in 4 or 5 hits. Now you have to stand in front of device, while dodging him so he can destroy these devices. You will also be shot by 2 or 3 enemies and more than likely hit by the large enemy. So, you will need to feed, but the large enemy will be on you so you can't.
So, you need to destroy 4 devices while dodging the large enemy and small enemies shooting at you without feeding. So, once the devices are gone you are free kill the large enemy? I believe so. As if you kill him before he has broken devices the game will spawn a fresh large enemy. Now guess what? Even after those devices are hit by the enemy you will have thrown in a small enemy into each before you can proceed. And there is chance if you kill the large enemy at this stage, you get a fresh large enemy :). Can't confirm that though. You have been warned.
Note that this review is based on the physical version I own, and not the terminal cut edition here.
It feels a bit clunky sometimes, some bosses were anoying, and in a few places the game can leave you confused as to what to do.
But regardless of the smaller issuer, it was enjoyable.
Haven't played the first game, but for an alleged supernatural badass, Rayne unavoidably spends much of her time on the floor being beaten with 2x4s and crowbars and getting kicked to death. Any encounter other and 1-on-1 (and 1-on-1 encounters are very rare) is a crap shoot because she doesn't do enough damage to put down the overwhelming numbers of opponents efficiently. "Evasive combat" is recommended if you can ever get the moves to proc, otherwise survivability is low. Boss fights are beaten entirely by luck; there are no reliable tactics to end these. As another user said in a review that has apparently been removed, the only worthwhile attacks are feeding and the harpoon; the much-vaunted combos almost never proc, feeding and the harpoon do not work on bosses, and you're left with a handful of basic moves and lackluster "powers" which just can't do the job.
The "Ultimate Update" finally fixed some lingering bugs that made this unplayable, involving mobs endlessly respawning so that a level could not be completed, or ceasing respawning before the "puzzles" (all of which involve throwing live opponents into fans, pressure plates, crushers and electrical conduits) could be completed.
Having experienced this, I do not understand the wild popularity these games enjoyed when they were new. I suspect it came from adolescent boys getting off on the graphics rather than anyone enjoying the very frustrating gameplay.
When you stop screaming at the screen, you will uninstall this and wish you could get your $10 back. Graphics are just okay, cutscene animation is bad even for the era (character walking animation and hand articulation are embarrassing in these; there were games of the era that did this much better), but textures and level design are outstanding.
oh boy this game I was play it like 20 hours in the ps2 when I was kid and I really love this game and when I heard that the game property rights went to the developers I was really happy!!!!! but now I look to the game and I say is ok game??? it is not good as bloodrayne 1 I mean bloodrayne 1 was spped action guns now the game focus about hack and slash like ninja Gaiden but the game not have alot movements and the ending oh my god was bad
gliffhanger I mean you don't know if your game will success and not only that the game have some bad fps [ only if you go pick up machine gun other then that this port is best way to play it 60 fps with hd and 16;9 in gameplay and cutscenes and you can play it 4;3 good jop!!!!] and somethims you feel this game unfinished and this is true !!!! because there are characters and enemies that have been cut from final product there are hole wiki about cut content but in the end it is ok game if love the first game go play it and have fun.
