Das Wasser von Biddeford...

...muss irgendwelche Chemikalien enthalten, die aus allen Bewohnern Choleriker machen. Wo der Vorgänger noch einen angenehmen Ton getroffen hat, sind hier die Fremdschammomente gerade am Anfang fast unerträglich. Nicht eine Person verhält sich vernünftig. Allen voran der Hauptcharakter - ein Rotzlöffel, dem mal die Hammelbeine langgezogen gehören. Auf jeden Fall kein Charakter, mit dem ich mich auch nur ansatzweise identifizieren kann und will. Es gibt zum Glück das Tagebuch, so dass ich nach kurzer Zeit dazu übergegangen bin, die Dialoge wegzuklicken und im Tagebuch zu schauen, was zu tun ist. Wenn ich das Spiel nicht vor 10 Jahren schon mal gespielt hätte und nicht wüsste, dass es zum Ende hin besser wird, hätte ich schnell abgebrochen. Dabei sind Story und Rätsel gar nicht schlecht, teilweise sogar recht kreativ (Fotos entwickeln). Wirklich hanebüchene Rätsellösungen gibt es auch nicht, das ist schon alles lösbar. Trotzdem keine Empfehlung von meiner Seite.

Solid point and click experience

Interesting that some people regard this part as much better than the prequel and some as much worse. I tend to agree with the former. The first game of the series was unplayably annoying for me. This one improved greatly in terms of controls and overall UI feeling. Also the graphics are much less annoying (the 3D characters are much more detailed and look way better than in the first part). The riddles are quite ok, relatively logical (of course with that particular brand of point-and-click logic where if you need a number 4 Phillips screwdriver you can easily get away with using a torx wrench but that's normal with those games). Some of the minigames are a bit annoying, luckily, they can be skipped after some time of trial and error. The game does feel a bit linear but on the other hand it's rather impossible to get into a no-exit situation. After all - if you like point and click games, it's a solid one to try out. Especially if bought with a discount.

Good game, lacks that special something

BM 2 is a good game but for me personally was the first part way, way better. The creepiness and horror elements that were really well done in BM 1, are in BM for most of the time gone. There are some surprising twists but I never felt such an urge to play the game like I did with BM 1. Puzzles are generally easy, I couldn't solve the piano puzzle, because I'm not competent in music and close to the end of the game you're faced with some semi difficult puzzles one after another, but they're do-able. I never really liked the protagonist Darren, actually his way of talking and behaving was getting on my nerves, maybe that's why I never liked the game as much as I had hoped to. For those that've played BM 1, some events are quite predictable but that's not a bad thing at all. It's a good game, a good adventure but lacks that special something that BM 1 had.

Some annoying details, but very good

I played the original Black Mirror 2000 and got totally hooked so I got very eager to play the other BM games. Black Mirror 2 was almost as awesome as the first game, though there were some details that got me very upset. Like some papers you get, you can't see them in big screen. And some details you actually needed to have very sharp eyes looking at the graphic which was not very clear. And also, if I was a game creator I would think "Can I possibly use brute force to get to this room by just bashing the door/climbing the wall instead of looking for small magical relics for hours to open just a small door that you could have entered with just a hammer" etc etc...apart from all this, the game was very good and kept the same atmosphere as the previous game. Story was phenomenal and now I'm going for the third game!

A good continuation from the first entry

Overall, like the first game, the biggest selling points of BM2 are the atmosphere and story. It does a good job of using good art, good sounds, and a sufficiently creepy plot to create a world that feels brooding and dangerous--and that's just when it's set in New Jersey! (Zing!) Soon, though, you find your way across the pond and begin exploring the Black Mirror Castle grounds and the sleepy little hamlet nearby, now a fading tourist trap (much like New Jersey, Zing2!) after a boom of people came to gawk at the sites of the murders from the first game. The puzzles are good, with most being complex without being too hard--though a few will require you to burn a few brain cells. The game is very long, too, which makes it a really good deal for the price. You meet some old characters and some new, many very distinct and interesting. It is not without problems, though. One is that it is just the first half of a two-game plot, basically. It would have been too much for one game, but don't expect total fulfillment at the end of this entry in the series because it's really just setting up part 3. Also, the character...man...this was an issue with the previous entry a little too, but it really stands out here. First, he can be rude. Like even when he says "I'll have to sweet talk my way past this person," the dialogue for half your topic choices are antagonistic and angry. Often he seems overly angsty in a conversation for no real reason. It can get really whiny and the character doesn't have much of an emotional arc in the game in terms of how he relates to the world around him. Second, he often acts a certain way just because script needs him to do so. Like he meets this girl one time and then will do anything to prove her innocence when she's accused of a crime. Why? Because she's kinda cute and they spoke once? His motivation is often to just keep the game moving and not as realistic as you may expect for the situation.
