Snake Logan is a top-secret operative for the CIA ordered to complete missions that others would regard as suicidal. One day, Snake is called into headquarters and briefed on a situation that has arisen in Metro City.
It seems that thousands of monster-like creatures are on a rampage of destruction through the city. Many thousands have already died, and Metro has declared martial law just before losing all communications. Right before the city was overrun, authorities received a message from a man calling himself Dr. Mangle. He stated that Metro is to be an example of what will happen to the rest of the world unless all factions of government comply with his wishes.
Snake is ordered to take a plane, fly recon over the city and then return. While circling over the area, he is suddenly attacked by some kind of laser weapon, and the plane loses engine power! He's forced to make an emergency landing and explore the ravaged city on foot. It's now up to Snake - and you! - to save any survivors, find the source of this destruction, and stop Dr. Mangle.

The companies that are remastering all of these Apogee games are absolute legends! Every single one of them remains faithful to their original counterparts, but adds just enough of a modern touch to bring the game into the modern era. You can even switch to the classic view if you want, but I find the new style looks so much better. I also love how the devs have added a brand new episode to each game, so you really feel like you got your money's worth. I just finished playing through the game, and you can get about 6-8 hours of gameplay from start to finish (8-10 for a completionist). As far as the price is concerned, $15-20 is more than reasonable for what you're getting. The controller support also works flawlessly on my 8BitDo controller. I can't recommend this game enough, and I really hope the devs bring Duke Nukem 1-2 Remasters to GOG and other platforms. It's a shame that it's stuck on the Evercade ... even if it is a great little console.
Well, it's unbelievable that they did it. This remaster is simply fantastic. The revamped graphics and modern innovations that smooth out the gaming experience are extremely good. I played through the first episode, where I encountered new levels and enemies. The music, graphics, and modern improvements work in perfect harmony to provide the best gaming experience for returning old DOS warriors and, of course, those who are encountering BioMenace for the first time. 5/5 Highly recommended!
Bio Menace has always been more than just a game to me.
It was one of my late father’s favorite games, and also one of my earliest gaming memories. When I was very young, we played the shareware version together on his PC. Like so many Apogee platformers, Bio Menace had that special mix of humor, action, and charm that made it endlessly replayable. Years later, I even managed to buy him the boxed full version, and I still remember how genuinely happy he was about it. Even much later, when I set up DOSBox for him on his PC, it was wonderful to see that the joy was still there.
Sadly, he can’t experience this remaster anymore. Still, I bought it on day one without hesitation.
And I’m very glad I did.
This is exactly the kind of remaster I love. It respects the original completely while making smart, careful improvements. Smooth scrolling, a richer color presentation, proper widescreen support, and modern controller compatibility all work beautifully. Nothing feels overdone or intrusive. It still feels like Bio Menace, just presented in the best possible way for today’s systems.
I’ve finished the first episode now and had an absolute blast. The game is as fun as I remembered, the price is more than fair, and the overall presentation feels genuinely loving and thoughtful.
Most of all, though, I’m grateful. Grateful for a great remaster, grateful for a great game, and grateful for the memories it brings back of playing together with my dad.
If you ever liked Bio Menace, I cannot recommend this remaster strongly enough.
An awesome game! If you’ve never played Bio Menace, you should definitely give it a try.
I have many childhood memories of this great game. It was my personal favorite platformer in the MS-DOS era.
Now it’s time to bring Duke Nukem Remastered to PC!
