Another HBS gem!

Battletech is a Turn-based tactics game in the vein of xcom. Unlike xcom however, getting through a mission without damage is impossible. Battles are about mitigating the amount of damage that happens. As a Mercenary commander you are tasked with not only piloting a mech but managing all the minutea of such a company. From buying upgrades to paying for your ships fuel. its all a very well tuned balancing act. The story cutscenes may lack flair but the story is strong enough to cary you through. Some things worth noting are the artsyle (its battleteck it always looks good) and the soundtrack. Battletech also comes with a multiplayer mode along with skirmish against the AI. This mode allows players to mix and match thier lance (a squad of 4 pilots and their mechs) to duke it out in multiple arenas. Overall I cant recommend Battletech enough.

The Sequel Should be Good

Pros: - Feels like Battletech - Fun progression building up your mercenary lance and capturing heavier mechs - Well-designed turn-based combat Cons: - Agonizingly long load times (I'm talking "bring a book to read while you wait for things to load" long) - Surprisingly linear game play: Not the open-ended sandbox you'd hope for - Stability issues, game crashes - Repetitive, predictable missions - Limited to one lance of 4 mechs: You'll never own vehicles or be able to field more than 4 mechs - Every campaign plays out identically, little replay value If you like Battletech and can get this game on sale, you should get your money's worth. But you're just as well off if you skip this one and wait for a much better sequel to eventually be released.

Requires a lot of investment.

This is not a game that's easily picked up. I can see the appeal to those that can immerse themselves into a game for hours at a time. A lot of time was spent creating the storyline, which i found quite captivating. The pace of the action is too slow for me. Too many clicks and too much options. I've only played the 2 introduction missions, and already feel overwhelmed. Most of the HUD is not explained to you in the introduction missions, so really have no idea what's going on or whether i'm about to die or not.

Worth backing, worth the season's pass

I backed this game when it was just a kickstarter, and I am so happy with the results of the game. The original story line was really good, disappointed that the entire Inner Sphere isn't available but I guess there are limits. Flashpoint added some nice changes, needed changes. Urban Warfare, the graphics and details were amazing. Now we've got Heavy Metal. Hopefully more expansions are coming! While not a perfectly adhereing to the BattleTech rule system, this game is really good, and should satisfy them, I know it did for me. Other gamers might not like it, but hey, I'm really happy with this incarnation of BattleTech, and in the end, that's what matters.

Mechanically Boring

Genre Strategy - when i saw game like this i know it will never satisfy my expectations and i got not disappointed. Like each other game in this genre it has a problem with the lag of interaction. In my Opnion its completly random and you often have no influence on the battlefield. it takes me 4 tries to complete the tutorial mission (on normal) and not to be a one shot target for a tank, a tank. each run its gonna be more frustating and not rewarding after it was done. its poorly explained what the games expects you to do and the solution has nothing to do with the strategy (hding in a bush). the battle are round based which slowdowns the game so it takes around 40-60 to complete a mission or fall asleep before. (you have options to increase the speed a bit but it takes the immersion and helps not to make the battles interesting) it feels not tactical or rewarding. maybe on later steps it interesting to farm mech parts or pilots but i was out before i reached this state. why farm when the main component are the "tactical" fights as the worst part of the game in my view. what means strategy in this game? copy xcom gameplay style, present expensive dlcs with zero content, let the player feel uncomfortbale each decision but are not able to implement famous mechs like the madcat. my time is expensive and the game at this date i writing this is on sale but nonetheless its also expensive so i got my refund
