Beschreibung
It has been 10 years since the 'Barrow Hill Incident', a terrible, unsolved mystery, when several people lost their lives to the force inside the hill. No-one knows what really happened, except you. Something to do with the ancient standing stones, the old Druid Circle. It was built by pagans, millennia ago, for purposes that we can only guess at. Until now.

It is the Autumn Equinox, when day and night are equal, exactly as they were a decade ago. You have returned to the scene of the crime, seeking answers. Could such an event happen again? What trials and offerings await? As you leave the car behind, and step into the dark world of the old woods, you wonder whether you seek the truth, or you are following the Dark Path.

Joining you on your adventure, once again, is kooky amateur late-night DJ Emma Harry. She is worried for her teenage friend, Mia, who has been behaving suspiciously. Emma has heard rumours of rituals, ceremonies and Devil Worship near the old Barrow Hill Service Station. Could Mia be involved? She may have good reason, Mia's brother Ben was among the missing 10 years ago. Is time repeating itself?

Features:
  • Sequel to Barrow Hill - Curse of the Ancient Circle.
  • A classic style 'point and click' adventure.
  • Explore the woods, standing stones and abandoned buildings of Barrow Hill, Cornwall.
  • A full spooky soundtrack, featuring real-world sfx from the setting.
  • Solve a myriad of puzzles and enigmas.
  • Full voice cast, to bring the adventure to life.
  • Search for lost treasures from the Bronze Age.
  • Use archaeology to uncover sites not seen for thousands of years.

True sequel

What I liked most about this one is that it is a true sequel. You revisit the places you visited in part 1 (10 years ago) and the game references some of the things that happened in the first one. It is not necessary to have played "Curse of the ancient circle" but it is a whole lot more fun if you did. This felt like a reunion for me and I was glad to be able to visit Barrow Hill once again. So much was familiar but many things changed. This game has much more inventory based puzzles in it rhan the predecessor had without completely dropping the code and clue finding from books and notes the first one did so well. Just like with the first one there are not really illogical or impossible puzzles and just like the first one the game oozes atmosphere until the very end. However this game has one minor downside - sometimes you might get lost in the woods despite the map you get early on - happened a few times to me which was a bit annoying. This should not scare anybody off though - it's a minor gripe because there aren't that many locations and after a while you will memorize the short ways much better. I recommend this fine game to every fan of first person point and click adventures who really enjoy a creepy story with great atmosphere. If you enjoyed part 1 you will enjoy this one as well I am quite sure about this.

More darkness and creepiness

Another eerie night at Barrow Hill, immersed in the exploration of dark woods, getting around the surroundings, exploring abandoned places. The surroundings navigation is a bit mazy, something that I generally don’t appreciate a lot in games, but not really confusing, also thanks to the in-game map. There’s a bit more magic this time, since the story is witchcraft themed. If you liked the first game, there’s no reason you should not play this one.

A solid sequel, with some highs and lows

Barrow Hill: The Dark Path is a first-person point & click adventure, like its predecessor. The game has you revisit the same locations after 10 years (the same time that passed between the two releases in real life), but this time there is a different threat lurking around. As with the previous game, the atmosphere is the strong suit of the game, although the first one was creepier and had a better build up. Another thing which detracts from the atmosphere are the phone calls, which happen just too often for its own good. Still, the game manages to set the right mood for a spooky adventure. The technical side has improved, compared to the first. The graphics are clearer, and have some small, but nice effects and animations here and there. We also have subtitles, and the mouse is much more responsive. Sadly, I did encounter at least 2 bugs playing the game (both of which were potentially game-breaking). In one instance, I couldn't attach a string to an interactive spot (thankfully, either for an oversight or on purpose, clicking the interactive spot multiple times without the string triggered the first step in the sequence anyway). In another, the game froze while you examined the center of a pentagram (not necessary to complete the game, thankfully). The gameplay is standard fare for the most part, and the puzzles are usually logical and enjoyable. There is one exception when you have to rebuild the right sequence of videos (there is no proper continuity among them, so trying to figure out the exact sequence is an exercise in frustration), but for the most part, you get helpful hints, or you can intuite your way past them. A slightly negative note is the overuse of "move objects out of the way" mechanics, reminiscing of mobile or hidden object games (they add nothing but some slight padding). With a little more care (or better design choices), this could have been a really good game, but it's still rather fun to complete.

lack of player support ruins game

I really liked the first barrow hill and point / click adventures are my favorite genre so i was thrilled to see the next barrow hill. after playing for hours im going to sadly give it 3 stars. If i judged solely on annoyances then it would be 2, if i judged solely on atmosphere it would be 5 stars. the good: atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere. its pure adventuring, looking for clues, reading bits of lore, listening to snippets of ads/shows on radio for clues. taking hand done notes like old school gaming, real movies inserted in clips, atmospheric music to ramp up dread. jump scares and generally just a feeling of dread as you wander lost in the woods. loved it the bad: game can glitch out so you lose whatever progress you had and revert back to last save, so save often. Unskippable mini puzzles, like the movie reel editing, no way to fast forward thru those long movie clips and if your poking about trying to solve it extremely annoying. Overuse of phone calls within the first half hr lead to unintended laughter on my part. horrid mapping, the sheer amt of time i spent just trying to get back to an area was super annoying. some sort of fast travel via map would have kept the pacing of the game and limited player annoyance. like all point and clicks there is a huge amt of backtracking to try out different items you have found on known hot spots. some actions do not open up until you pass a gate keeping animation. so even if you know what to do it wont let you by the end i resorted to a walkthru just to avoid the irritations of the game, lost whatever sense of awe and wonder to sheer annoyance. they said at beginning of game that the devs didnt hold your hand, but there is a fine line of being obtuse for complexity or ignoring player comfort cuz ... reasons. get it on sale and dont feel bad to using a walkthru to avoid annoyances that suck the life out of the game.

Loved the original games...

I loved the first games produced by this developer, but this pales in comparison and, in fact, I never even finished despite attempting several times in a losing effort to catch any semblance of the magic and lovely creepiness of the fist games. This one introduces just too many silly gimicks and presents persnickety, casual game-style game play. Needless to say, it was deleted and I never looked back though I do hope this developer rethinks his motis operandi and circle back to his original style. His original games were immersive and thoroughly memoragble in so many ways (gameplay style, art, sound, etc).
