Not a BG game

I have played and replayed bg 1 and 2 multiple times. When i decided to quit nicotine i rented a cabin in the middle of nowhere, had friends drop me off so i physically couldnt go to a store. I brought tons of snacks and my laptop with BG 1 and 2 to keep myself from going crazy. I love those games. After playing a bit of BG3 it felt zero connection or nostalgia to the first 2 games. The storytelling is subpar, the characters are extremely unlikable and, for me, a BG game needs real time with pause. The message i get from larian is "screw the story, screw a bear instead". Perhaps this game would be great on its own merits but for me the association to the 2 first games are to powerful so its impossible for me to enjoy. Ah well, i have only played through icewind dale 2 4 times, its time for another run.

Game of the Century!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I am still annoyed at the neverending Early-money-Access, but bad business practices aside, what an *absolute* blast!! Best 116 hours of my life! I would have to put so many spoilers here to explain why this is heaven for old fans of the BG series, but even not mentioning any of that, the incredible combination of music, memorable fights, great acting (voices and body), Faerun setting, well written companions and story, and so on makes this game my no.1 of all time (cannot believe BG2 became third in just a couple of years). Immersion is definitely one of the game's strengths, and if you are the kind of hero that loves bonding with your companions, well, this is for you. For people who are familiar with the Divinity series, and are not into its tendency to be a parody of the RPG genre, I would still recommend to give this a try, the divinityzation has been kept within reason and this is NOT DOS3 as many say. For the old BG fans, I will just say that the moment you hear familiar punchlines, accents and even enemy battlecries gave me the goosebumps... Have not done an evil playthrough yet, but I hope it will deliver as it seems to be promised. The huge amount of fun and tears can even make you forget those small slips, like conversations not updating properly, enemies taking ages for their turn (Boo even complains about it).. that said, the game has not crushed a single time, even on my struggling laptop.

6*/5* If you fundamentally like CRPGs, this game is an unquestionable must-have in your library; its simply not anything less. It's the kind of game where after 1h you already solidly planned your second playthrough.

Snore, snore, snore

I played a Dark Urge Barbarian and couldn't immediately kill the guy with a knife to my throat after the intro. Lame writing, stupid scenario, performance issues, bloated installer - it's like Larian did everything they could wrong. Oh, except pay off Geoff Keighley! GOTY 2023! LMFAO The only thing that went right was my friend letting me use his GoG installer to try it out before I blindly purchased for bandwagoning reasons. I'll stick with the older NWN and IE games, I guess.
