It is a good game but...
I am big fan of classic Fallout games and I was excited when my friend recommended me this game. I played Atom RPG from start to finish, I have done most of the sidequests and I finished main quest with more than one ending. I will start with good things about the game: - Despite having a little bit older PC (i5 4670K, GeForce 980 GTX, 16 GB RAM) game worked smoothly on maximum details without any frame skipping. It only crashed once during my 43 hours of play time. - I liked the atmosphere of the game. We did not play as some typical chosen one hero but a regular soldier who was sent on a mission by a secret organisation in post-apocalytpic world. - NPCs felt alive and unique. I really liked the idea of giving each one a portrait to better represent them. - Combat system was the same as in classic Fallout games. Companion AI was on a level where it did not felt frustrating fighting together with them. It made fights enjoyable. - I like the gameplay feature to switch between regular and isometric view. What are the bad things? - Level scaling for weapons and armor prevented your character from finding good inventory. Basically there was not much point of exploring a pre-war bunker if you knew that you are not going to find anything useful apart of some health restoring items and tinkering materials. - Bunkers and other underground "dungeons" were really big, but not that interesting. Again this was partially caused by lack of good rewards due to level scaling. Having a higher level weapon or armor at the end of the location could be a nice reward for exploration. Instead it was quite tedious. - Tinkering skill was rarely useful. Mainly because hand crafted weapons had a 10% chance to break when used. - Repeating dialogs with NPCs, the so called "four questions". - Names of the NPCs could be shown without NPC telling us their name. I know it is not realistic, but could help a lot when looking for them. Especially since not all of them share this information.

A love letter to old CRPGs
I am having a blast playing this, and I DID expect a lot from the game, as old isometric Fallouts are in my "top 5 of all time" list. The current version (1.1) is in my experience free of any bugs. I am 50+ hours in, taking my time roaming across the eastern wasteland :) and getting excited with myriad of little details and references scattered across - clearly this was made by people who are fans of old isometric CRPGs, and that is obvious in every screen of the game. The fact that the game does not hold your hand is very refreshing, and improves the feeling of being lost and resourceless at the beginning at least - you'll have to "earn" everything, nothing is given for free, and that is more than welcome in my opinion. Of course, I can list some things which would improve the game, but taking the price and value into account, this is a GEM!

one of the best
well, what a surprise. i didn't expect to love atom that much. all these negative reviews almost prevented me from buying it, but it ended up being one of the best crpgs i've ever played. atom is a love letter to fallout, not just a "clone". atom is the reason why i love video games. i'm playing an alcoholic character who uses his dog and his slave to carry his booze. doesn't get better than that! since everything has already been said about atom, just read the previous reviews for more details.

All you need is Hexogen
When you don't have something important to do and you like rpgs like Wasteland 2 and Expeditions: Viking go for this game. I sunk over 100 hours into this little gem, even though it started out roughly (the tutorial does not show, what you should actually expect from fights). What I liked about it the most is its humour. From its setting alone you cannot expect the numerous references (pokemon!) that game throws at you, I probably missed half of it anyways. On the negative side I experienced quite a bit of grinding mid-game, the followers are sometimes plain suicidal and I rather have a cover-system in these kind of turn-based fights. But that wasn't a game-breaker at all, it just felt like a lack of tactical possibilities. Thumps up from me, totally worth the full price or even more, devs are constantly working on the game too.
