Fairly Good

This is a first-person real-time dungeon crawler based in an underground world. The world has multiple levels, the deeper you go the more dangerous it becomes. Magic is done by a Rune system that has the player tracing out actual rune shapes in the air with their mouse to complete spells. It's an interesting and different system, but has some issues as sometimes the shapes have to be drawn multiple times to activate correctly. Overall, the game has a lot of promise but falls a little flat for me. The fighting gets repetitive and there isn't much of a sense of accomplishment or forward progress. The graphics are fine in regards to their level (this is an old game, after all), I just wasn't drawn into the style. Mostly because this game takes place underground all the levels consist of caves or buildings, which are small and cramped and do not lend to a lot of variety. Averagely good game, not amazing, but worth giving a try if you're into dungeon crawl RPGs.

An UW comparison review

BETTER THAN UW - Large viewscreen and very decent graphics (I think UW is barely playable today because of graphics) - Most of the game is much less stressful - You aren't forced into training with swords (though you must use a sword eventually, combat skill doesn't distinguish) - NPC interaction is very simple (that may be bad) - inventory, food and light management is simpler (bad if you like that) - It's different... UW WAS BETTER - AF's dungeon doesn't feel as intricate and has less nooks and crannies - Less atmosphere and music - Inventory, light and food management was more of a challenge - Overall tougher fights. AF has some tough ones but mixed with trivial ones Overall... it's just a nice, well done game. I couldn't find significant issues. The one issue, difficult puzzles or quests, is easily remedied today with walkthrough when you feel you need them.

Most realistic RPG ever.

Very great RPG game. It has lots of features: >intense and very realistic combat,spell system; >lots of items >great story >lots of places to visit (dungeons,indoors only) >intelligent enemies >action freedom and lots of realism (e.g.1:need restore health? Kill chicken for example, than use fireplace,cook it and eat it. Got some magic powers? Just use fireball spell and chicken ready to eat after few seconds) >and lots lots more...

Outstanding

Arx is still one of the all time great RPG's. It has everything, combat, suspence and a unique casting system based on gestures. Even after 8 years it's still stunning visualy and a treat to play.
