Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition

I have a Mac (OS Sonoma 14.6.1) and the game won't start, I tried everything I could think of, and consulted the support page. nothing worked. I'm disappointed. I was excited to play this game for the first time since I was 9 years old. I

This was the "Half-Life" of its age. Unparalleled storytelling through cut-scenes and action, clever puzzles and an alien setting perfect for a sci-fi story. All on a 486. Essential part of the video game history.

I loved this title as a kid (I knew it as "Out of this World"), but the older I get the more I realize this was just a precursor to cutscene's masquerading as gameplay. Especially when put against the far more satisfying spiritual followups "Flashback" and "Heart of Darkness" (the latter by the original creator of Another World). This game isn't a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a building block for what would become much better iterations. I would say Flashback is a 4 star game and Heart of Darkness is a 5 star title. Compared to those games this is a conceptually weighted tech demo. Cool, but lacking.

This game is one of the greatest achievements in computer game storytelling. The relationship built between the player and his alien friend is just heartbreakingly beautiful. The game itself is fun, if often excessively difficult/bordering on unfair. Havent played the GOG version yet but looking forward to an easy mode!!!

Great game - so stylish. The visuals are smooth, atmospheric, and go to prove that things don't have to be 3D and CPU-hungry to be immersive. The first time I played this game, it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside, like I'd just found something special. It still does. The puzzles are tricky, and can be a little frustrating, but stick with it - if you use the cheats for some of them, like I did, the whole experience passes far too quickly...
