Anno 1404: Gold Edition

I love the Anno serie and 1404 is maybe still one of the bests. But because this game is still only available in 32 bit it makes huge problems on modern systems. I have tried every 4GB memory path, every graphic settings and workaround with using DX9/10 etc... I have really tried everything but it still crashes in the endgame every 30-60min. So if you have a modern system with a 4K screen and want to play this masterpiece in "modern" graphic... forget it! The game will crash after a short time because the lack of memory... so sad. :( There are some reports that people are able to play it for a longer time periode with the 4GB patch but looks like this is not working for all systems. Had no luck with my setup in 4k resolution... and playing it in FHD on a 32" screen looks too horrible for me to accept. Win 10 Threadripper 1950x 32GB Memory GTX 1060

Great, so we got a game that constantly crashes. Not only it happens quite often when you try to safe I also pretty much locks down whole Windows, the only that kills the game is logging out the user - and that is not different from just rebooting. The English translation is bad, good thing it is not a RPG or other story driven game. And even when the game works it basic QoL: no scrolling by WASD, the game speed changing button only work while you *keep* them pressed. Much of the information is hidden, for example the balance "sheet" pretty much contains only 2 numbers (income/expenses). The trading interface is prone to missclicks (or leaving without accepting the deal), overall controlling ships somehow feels of. Oh right, also the AI cheats like there is no tomorrow. Being an Anno series fan doesn't mean you should love any game from series, and this one is just terrible from technical point of view, and should not be released in this state (or left in that state after last patch) To add the insult to injury the "fixed" version was now released - the "history edition" - it makes this version 100% obsolete if you can accept using uplay.

I loved the early Anno games, but this seems terribly basic in comparison, and also really lacking in good information through the user interface. It's a new game, but already showing its age. However, it's a game previously crippled by horrible DRM so it's worth a buy just to show Ubisoft that they should do this with more games!

The main game Anno 1404 runs perfectly but when you try to play the addon, you really need luck to get it running. I play it from the GoG App and it just freezes, dont syncronize the save games, doesnt start, dont save the game automaticly. Its verry annoying. The game is a 5* but Anno Addon is pretty bad on the GOG app, so better download it offline.

The graphics are nice, the audio is okay but the campaign mechanics are unintuitive and don't mix well with the UI..
