Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
This is a good game and is a must play for any horror game fans. Much better game then the New Alone in the Dark that came out for the XBOX 360 & PS3.

A great action-spooker with unique ideas
Maybe because I played it a long time ago, I overlooked what others might find a little clunky? But wow, AiTD plays like classic Resident Evil in a lot of ways, and it's reasonably modern if the old classic Alone in the Darks are a bit too throwback for you. The two characters have not only different storylines, but different gameplay styles. Edward Carnby is your shooty boi. A majority of his playthrough involves guns with an extra barrel (starts with a double-barrel revolver, gets a triple-barrel shotgun later!). He gets some puzzles and a few boss fights too though! Aline Cedrac is a scholar, not an action hero. She starts with just a flashlight, and her gameplay is a lot more enemy-avoidance and clever puzzle solving. Later on she gets some pretty cool experimental weapons though. Sure, you get some zombies, but the unique point of this AiTD is that the monsters are "shadow creatures." Some behave just like any other game baddies who need extra lead in their diet, and others are banished or at least spooked by light. Speaking of light, for a game of its age, light vs darkness is themed rather heavily, and the flashlight dynamics are really impressive. (Fortunately, unlike Alan Wake, you're not reloading that light every 30 seconds, if I remember correctly...) Aline's playthrough especially, gives you that feeling when you wake up at 2AM to pee after watching scary movies all night, and you feel yourself running for the light switch because something could be right behind you! I remember some lengthy journal entries, and unfortunately a few befuddling book-somewhere-provides-the-secret-code puzzles, ack...but no slider puzzles I don't think! If you're a Resident Evil fan you'll feel right at home. You even get your cardiograph health indicator and special talisman charm thingies that let you save your game, fortunately without having to find a typewriter first! Wears a bit thin by the end, but definitely worth playing for unique ideas.

A flawed, if fun Survival Horror romp
New Nightmare is not a perfect game, it has its flaws, certainly on the technical front. The music compared to the Dreamcast/PS1 versions of the game seems horribly compressed for no good reason, the game has re-spawning enemies which can make the early manor section a chore at times. There's gameplay problems too, boss fights arent exactly intuitive since they can range from bullet sponges to "What should I look for in the environment to end them?", the final boss fights being more frustrating than they should for this reason. I could talk more about some puzzles left me stumped and wandering around the environments, but thats just something I had with this series since its more complex in terms of puzzle solving than arguably Resident Evil was. Yet in spite of that, I enjoyed my time with the game, even though it is not a perfect title. The environments are absolutely gorgeous, and I love the use of native american imagery used throughout. The mansion itself genuinely exudes a creepy atmosphere, and the scares in this game still hold up. While combat can take some getting used to, it's still fun and never too frustrating outside of bosses, and though the puzzles can be confusing there's some really neat ones when it relies on the light for example. The story itself though cheesy at times, genuinely had me interested in seeing how it would unfold, and I loved piecing together what happened on Shadow Island. Not my go-to horror game as it lacks replay value and the PC conversion isn't great, but still a decent horror title that, like the rest of this series, is sadly underappreciated and forgotten by time. Definitely worth picking up on sale at least.
