A zombie-killer-killer.

This game is fun as hell! The "fight with light" is probably the greatest mechanic ever created for a third-person shooter other bullet-time - which also came from the hands of Remedy, FYI. Sure this game has only about five hours of campaign with heavily re-used maps, but the juicy script, the totally ape-shit world setup and the astonishing voice acting totally makes up to it. Also the survival mode is so addicting! It's like a zombie killer but ten times shinier and more graceful!

awesome story

Alan wake provides a very good story . but american nightmare has taken the video games to the next level with its movie scenes that is acted by real people . i think the upcoming games developers should consider doing this in their games . the arcade mode is unbelievable . i think the only criticism i had is that the game levels are not long enough , i mean i installed american nightmare yesterday and i finished it today besides this everything is awesome

Better and worse than the previous game

Based on "Alan Wake's American Nightmare" on Epicgames. Pros; In this game Alan was not as hopeless to control as in the original game, munition was plentiful, and at least you do not loose equipment the same way as in the original game... The video looked a bit better and sound and voice acting was good in this game too. I found "Arcade Mode" to be more fun than the actual game, and spent more or less the equivalent time playing it as the main game. Cool mini slow motion sequences sometimes when Alan is attacked or dodges attacks. A bit funny comments to Alan from other characters in the game regarding their mutual situation... Cons: Little to none "replayability", because when you have finished this game you have already "replayed" it... No funny mini "Twilight Zone" episodes on TV, no funny references to other authors, still not possible to save during the game (but relatively frequent checkpoints, and this game is not as hard to play. So not as bad as the first game). The actual game is even shorter than the original (took me less than a day to finish. "Arcade Mode" was more fun than the main game, but became terribly hard half way through (when playing the same areas a second time). Conclusion: I found this game more fun and less iritating and frustrating to play than the original game. Even if the main game is even shorter than the original game, I would choose this game before the original if I had to choose one of them since this game costs less, and because of the other pros I have already mentioned. My i7 7700 with a GTX 1060 ran the main game smooth in 4k without a single crash. But the game have crashed approximately three times in "Arcade Mode" so far.

It's filler, but that's OK

This game lacks a lot of what made the first game so great. If the first Alan Wake had you on the edge of your seat, and you were hoping to get more of the same suspense and mystery in this game, look elsewhere. The story is pretty crap, overall. There have, however, been some (small) improvements to the combat and the variety of the minor enemies. Like the first, this is something of a repetitious game. Probably moreso. There isn't nearly as much now scenery or game content, so some if it gets a little stale by the end. American Nightmare does a few things right, though. It has just a touch of that classic Remedy sense of humor that complements a pulp-style game so well; that's what this game is, it's a pulp-action game, in stark contrast to the original horror title. I absolutely couldn't get enough of faux-Rod-Serling and especially not the psychotic-yet-charismatic and gleefully evil Mr. Scratch.

American Nightmare running scared

I got this game through free on GOG. I have beaten Alan Wake and American Nightmare on Steam, so I'm just going to copy and paste my review from there: If you haven't played Alan Wake, you might actually enjoy this, but won't really understand what's happening plot-wise, if you have played Alan Wake, you should definitely pick this up because it fixes a lot of the mechanics from the main game and adds more to the Alan Wake story. If you enjoyed Alan Wake, but disliked the flashlight and shooting mechanics, you'll really appreciate this as the gunplay and combat is vastly improved. The enemy types are similar to the last game, and although they follow the same formula of flashlight-stun-shoot they have different abilities and appearances. This game is set in the Arizona desert as opposed to the last games lush Pacific Northwest forests. The setting makes for a nice change of pace, and the big open landscape is really beneficial to the combat and exploration in my opinion. Also, whereas the last game took a lot of cues from American horror literature... and Twin Peaks. This game takes more cues from American horror films, and television, specifically the Twilight Zone, and it's very well off for it. The story doesn't do as much as I would like in continuing the storyline from the first game but is still fairly interesting on it's own as it gives glimpses into what's going on in "the real world." I think the developers wanted to do more in that regard, but held back because they're still hoping to do a proper sequel at some point. Finally, I'm not sure if it's because of the restraints on the development or just a design choice but the biggest drawback of the game is the constant backtracking. You replay each area at least three times due to a weird time travel element in the storyline. Although it does get sped up each time due to you changing things in the past it's still fairly annoying, I would have preferred more areas, or just a shorter experience honestly.
