A New Beginning: Final Cut

The game has good music, beautiful art style and gorgeous backdrops that remind me of my old hobby of drawing. The characters are interesting, with personality and traits, but the voice acting is inconsistent. While it is generally good, sometimes the actors don’t put enough emotions in their lines, and this is very obvious in certain key moments, when you know the characters are supposed to feel extremely surprised or frightened or happy. The story is interesting to experience alongside the characters, but… Revelations were not as expected as in “Still Life” or “Goin’ Downtown”. In “The Silent Age” I spoiled the story twist to myself by reading all the notes while exploring, and the ending still had more emotional impact than the totally unexpected one in “The New Beginning”. For several evenings after the work hours, I enjoyed the game, but the whole adventure was missing something: something I can’t put my finger on. I completed the puzzle, took pleasure in the process, but, sadly, because of the missing piece I won’t be able to hang it on my wall - or remember it as fondly as something like “The Broken Sword 1: Shadow of the Templar's”.

The world is going to end because of climate change. Travellers from the future are here to convince the protagonist to continue his research into algae-based energy technology. Except not really. I loved the cartoon comic style of presenting story interludes. The feeling of the puzzles is much closer to an "escape room" game. You finish one puzzle (or couple of them) in a scene, and then you move to the next scene. There's little tying things together. Puzzles are unrelated to the story, have bizarre solutions. The story is, at times, terrible. The twist is predictable. The voice acting is toneless and void of emotion. There's a good game in there, trying to get out. That all said, I mostly enjoyed playing it, and it's still worth considering when it's on sale.

I found this game to be very enjoyable, once I got past a small learning curve at the beginning, the characters, puzzles and story where interesting and just kept getting better throughout!

Bad writing, bad puzzles, bad voice acting (english), buggy. The graphics and animation are ok. Stay away from this one.

This game annoyed me. The voice acting in English is really really poor and the story is a bit...preachy. If you like the plot then you'll love the game basically but to me it became a bit of a chore. The puzzles can be rock hard though because the game gives you little feedback or clues on what goes with what or where to find stuff.
