A Boy and His Blob

It had all the premise to be either a great interactive fiction and/or beautiful puzzle platformer. Sadly both it's mechanics and narrative are heavily underbaked. The latter is pretty much absent, aside from "cute characters overcome some obstacles" -- so initial charm starts to drain rapidly after a few levels. And the design of everything is just all over the place. Any puzzle or movement challenge utilizes the transformations of the titular blob -- but this miriad of mechanics shuffled and rearranged throughout the levels without any sense of progression and learning curve. Clunky UI makes a lot of interactions unpleasant, especially boss fights. Most of the level design feels rather slapdash, with the addition of the occasional pathfinding and collision glitches. Overall it's playable and at least can deliver some fun. But ultimately it's a major overhaul away from a definitively good game.

Deutsch: Ich habe dieses Spiel irgendewann mal auf GOG entdeckt und als ich bereit für einen Plattformer war, habe ich es ausprobiert. Was soll ich sagen - ich habe es gespielt, bis ich alle Erfolge hatte. Was ich mag: - Ordentliche Mechanik (alles, was nicht gut funktionierte, war mein Fehler) - Viele Funktionen für meinen Freund, den Blob - Schön gestaltete Levels - Steigender Schwierigkeitsgrad, wobei ich die meisten Lösungen noch selbst herausfinden konnte - Schöner, nicht nervender Soundtrack Was ich nicht mag: - Ein Achievement ist kaputt (Rette alle Blobs in Citadel 5) English: I discovered this game on GOG and when I was ready for a platformer I gave it a try. What can I say - I played it until I got all the achievements. What I like: - Proper mechanics (anything that didn't work well turned out to be my mistake) - Lots of features for my friend the blob - Nicely designed levels - Increasing difficulty while I was still able to figure out most of the solutions by myself - Lovely, not annyoing, soundtrack What I don't like: - One achievement is broken (Save all Blobs in Citadel 5)

It's mostly style over substance but this game is fun to play and the art style is charming. I kind of wish they made more of these.

The original was way better, this remake is a wicked dud.

This game would be wonderful if it hasn't have that high arcade level of difficulty, too much arcade, less logic. First word have medicrate level of difficulty, after that point it will rise like madman...
