Nice idea - a few issues

This game could be really good except for some critical issues. 1. The brakes are REALLY bad and there is no way to adjust them to make them better. You can upgrade them over time but they are still bad even then. I was a truck driver back in the day and, thankfully never drove a truck with brakes this bad! 2. The steering is very hard to get adjusted correctly for using a controller like Xbox 360. Fiddling with the controller options does help some though. 3. I have encountered a very annoying glitch were the cops pull you over randomly, like in the middle of the interstate where there are no lights, giving you a fine for running a red light. I finally had to research how to turn off the cops so this didn't keep happening as it was doing it every minute or 2 in my game play. At least they do allow you to do so by modifying the config file. I don't mind realism of having cops pull you over if you break the law but not randomly like that. 4. I like that they have mirrors and where they put them in the game so you don't have to turn the view to see them but then they have the map covering the right one up so you have to toggle it off and on to change to a right lane if you are using the 1st person view. They could have put it lower so it didn't blow the mirror. The mirrors could have a bit closer up view. It isn't easy to back using them as they are. I have to change the camera view to back properly and see where I'm going. Compensating for the above issues, the game is decent. I do wish they had put more work into it, patching the glitches, instead of just moving forward with so many different games in the series.

It's fine

Having never played a trucking game, I have to say that this is a pretty decent game. The gist of this game is: you get some cargo contract, you drive to your destination, you get paid. Rinse, lather repeat. No, it isn't super exciting - mostly I just enjoy the long drives and occasional road challenges like heavy traffic or navigating tight roads with large loads. There's a very simple cb radio system that is fun to break the monotony. It's a chill game overall. The map covers parts of the USA, Canada and Mexico. The world feels appropriately large, but it is "compacted" and cities are made of just a few major streets and points of interest. There is no real "point" to the game though: it's a "sandbox" where you do what you want. There is some progression to it: you start with a single truck and a bit of money and once you get more money eventually you start buying more trucks and hiring drivers that work for you. There are a few downsides. The game feels "cheap". Graphics aren't amazing (they are serviceable). Audio is kinda bad. It crashes a bit (always save before interacting with notebook!). The game also has no tutorial and only a short manual. It is confusing for a newcomer. It lacks a the polish that you expect in modern games. The police system is also under-developed. You gain "wanted" level for doing illegal things, which is fine, but sometimes it isn't obvious what is going on - for example: driving after 6pm with your headlights off gives you wanted level but you might not notice this and you will rack up a huge amount and possibly a fine. Visibility is also terrible which you will feel while you struggle to get a good angle to be able to see what you are doing while backing up with your trailer. That said, overall, the game is a chill experience despite the flaws and I am happy with it. The price even discounted is a bit steep for what you are getting IMHO. If you are bored and want something different you can consider this game.

great game

before GPS there were maps, and now you need to attach every trailer before driving. its trucking before navigation, more authentic than ET2 and ATS. other than that? the modern versions are better in every single way. TBH i don't think the wipers do anything .. lol? The cops are invisible and show up randomly The brakes are bad.

Across America is better.

American Long Haul - is latest game in series (except differ Extreme\2). Better in some cases, firt ones - graphics (or not?). But luck of some features from EVERY prev. games. Probably not even largest USA...? From my review of 18WoS:AA game: I didnt play similar games from other devs (i dont know that alternatives, i guess some german developed simulators exist). But for SCS or russians devs - this is best Truck driving simulator. No doubt. Not Rig n Roll, not ETS2\ATS, not old HT2 King of the Road (too arcade game). Across America - only one game with really competion AI opponents. Any newer games from SCS - just sandbox game without competion with opponents or no opponents at all. Yes, most of them have goal take 51% of market. But only old HT2 have opponents... still individuals and too weak. In Across America AI company - real company. With HQ in some cities (and cargo advantages in that city). And growing fast copmanies. Other games from SCS - percentages just a digits. SCS almost like 3DO back in the days. A lot of same games - and newest lack of content. American Long Haul - latest of the series (Extreme - is just A-to-B routes). And lack of features from every prev. games. Every have own exclusive one feature. Yes, this game is too aged. Size of USA is too small scaled. No cargo planning (too much randomised for that). Some other thigs from every later games. And ofc - graphics. Sad, but true - still there is no alternatives.
