We're aware it's free, but look at it this way.
If GOG were to have this game as one of the freebies you get when joining the site like they did with Ultima IV, Beneath a Steel Sky, Wrath of The Temptress etc, then not only would that allow us existing users to experience a game without having to seek out a DOS emulator and spend hours of trial and error typing in codes to get the games to work, it would also attract new members to the site so it would benefit GOG as well as the users.
Daggerfall? Bad idea.
Why? Because GoG would be flooded with complaints the day it goes live.
Nostalgia aside, Daggerfall remains one of the most broken, buggy RPG's in gaming history. Even with every single patch installed, it's an extremely unstable game.
Seriously. Daggerfall is buggy on a level that's hard to describe unless experienced.
You can get this game straight off the elders scrolls website at:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/
Just bang around on there
Are you serious? It's completely free already :)
There are already copies of Daggerfall that have been made to run on new computers, the copy at the UESP (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Files) includes the unofficial patches as well.
It would be a wonderful addition to the freebies list, since it's already a freeware.
Agreed. Bethsoft has this and Arena for free. No point in them buying rights (from Bethsoft, no less who believes in DRM) to sell a game they have for free.
Daggerfall AND Arena are both free on Bethesda's site, I don't see the point of adding either one to GoG.
GOG come on!
I would love to see this on GoG too. I actually bought this game years ago but to get it to run myself would be a pain. I like how GoG does all the hard work and would gladly pay for them to have this on their list of games.
I added my vote for GoG.com to add this ame to their freebies list, so its easily accessible, the game is already freeware, GoG could strike a deal with Bethesda.

I would love to see this on GOG. It's a classic RPG, ranks up there with Planscape: Torment and Bioware games.
I always have a hard time making this game work on a modern PC. I'd definitely buy it from GOG.com
Even though the game is freely available from Bethesda, I would like to see proper scans of the manual and the strategy guide. The latter of which is hard to get hold of even in digital form. Plus there are probably a few other extras GOG could provide, such as the sound-track.
@FredJokamotraye and anybody who read his comment: *NO*, Arena and Daggerfall are *NOT* public domain. Freely downloadable from the publisher's website is *NOT* public domain. It's still copyrighted to Bethesda and it is still illegal to redistribute it. Just because something is free doesn't mean it's public domain!
Its free, just use an emulator like dosbox.
Hey guys. I created a wish in the Requested Site Features so that GOG strikes a deal w/ ZeniMax Media Inc. (Parent of Bethesda Softworks) Link: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/strike_a_deal_w_zenimax_media_incI need your votes!
So hows it feel to know we're not downloading dosbox games for our pc's but our android phones? hahahahah stick it goobleplay and iphone store.
Guys, as stated by FredJokamotraye in his very informative comment, the game is already available for free and @mr_blur: I think until the rights to some more mainstream elder scrolls game are won from Zenimax (who do not seem to like DRM-free), GoG will have no way to even put up ES2 for free, even though it would be great for business! You want ES on GoG? Bombard Zenimax and Bethesda with emails!!!
@Fredjokamotraye We all know it's free, it's not about the money, it's about collectors purposes. Several people, me included, would even pay to get these on GOG.
GoG.com ...TAKE MY MONEY!!! I'll buy it ALL! I really need, i repeat, i NEED to see these games sitting on my gog shelf, otherwise my life will never seem complete... :( GET THEM!
As the guy below me stated, this game is free, along with Arena from Bethesada. They even provide documentation for getting it up an running using DosBox.
THIS GAME IS FREE! WHY IS THIS ON THE WISHLIST!? IT IS PUBLIC DOMAIN, THAT MEANS IT IS LITERALLY FREE! Bethesda hosts it on their website for...guess what kiddies...free. There is also an updated, patched, and working without DOS version available here: http://theelderscrolls.wiwiland.net/?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN
This is so much better than the first one, I would pay for this game even though it's free from bethesda!
The reason I would like to see Daggerfall on GoG is the fact that I am a collector and I like having my games all in neat little collections. That is why I use Steam, Desura, and GoG and when it is possible I buy all the editions and keep them lined up in neat little rows. Yes it is free from Bethesda, but I do hope I can find it here one day along with the rest of the Elder Scrolls series.
GOG should give us the free Dos version as a gift or sell the better CD-Rom one. Any of the two (along with the first game) is fine.
Even though this game is free from bethesda if GOG was to make a port for this game even if you release it for free yourselves i strongly believe it would be a good way to bring new users to the site and while theyre here hopefuly they will pick up some of the other awesome titles you offer!!! its win win for everyone involved!
GOG has no issue with offering free games, as long as they are good/classic. So this should be here.
My comment as well, it's freely downloadable from Bethesda so little point now in adding it here as well... i.e. It'd have to be free -> little incentive for gog w/o say Morrowind and Oblivious at least....
Bethsoft gives this away for free. This is not needed on GoG.
Its available legally for free. As is the first one on Bethesda's website, a re-release is a waste of time.
Elder scrolls rule, DaggerFall is hours of great fun for an old game and part of my childhood i love it, definately should be on Gog bring it back .
i would give my left nut to play this game again! please please please add it to the already awesome GOG Library
Being that DOS Box is actually a walk in the park to set up compared to DOS boot disks, I have no idea why anyone has a complaint about this. Why buy the game when you can download it for free, then download DOSBox, set that up in like 10 minutes and then away you go? I mean, really folks. Our laziness defines us just as much as our ability; I'd rather be defined by the latter, myself. And to whomever said "Buggerfall": The game's only extremely buggy if you cheat. Otherwise, it's actually more stable than Morrowind.
I run Daggerfall on Windows 7, you just need to use GOOGLE. Thats where I got my free copy.
While Daggerfall is free, users think they have to configure Dosbox themselves, which while easy can be time consuming, especially for first timers. I do not know why people do not use the "DaggerfallSetup EN" (theelderscrolls.wiwiland.net/?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN) which configures everything for you and includes fan made patches for save game corruption and quest bugs. DaggerfallSetup is essentially a better version then what gog would proabably release. I just can not imagine playing Daggerfall without those patches. The game will not run native on windows and I can not see gog being able to change this. If the XL engine (xlengine.com) is ever finished then this would be possible, but Dagger XL is still in pre-alpha.
WHAT THE HELL... Why are people bagging this awsome game. If you dont want it then ignore it and stop posting neg. comments ! Bring it on GOG. i love it
Elder sccrolls rule bring it back
When I voted for this it hadn't been released for free yet. Now that it has I'd rather GOG focus their efforts on games that are still hard to get.
i don't want to go through the annoying crap to install like when i first bought the game and maybe they should have the Dagger XL patch available.
@ PepsiDude002 They are available on their official site, but I'd like to see versions of both Daggerfall and the first game (Arena) that don't require DOSBox. They should be executables like most of the other games here.
Buggerfall
daggerfall is free and a third party has actually created an installer for it so you dont even have to bother with all the dosbox coding. Im still not sure why this is up here. Stop voting for this and vote for Civ II.
Yes! Please!
As has been mentioned several times before; Daggerfall is free. Go to the website mentioned by stankdeath to download it, or do a google search for "daggerfall setup en". This installs for you all the official patches and add-ons as well as some great community fixes, a savegame recovery tool and even a program that increases your in-game view distance. The install program is as quick and easy to use as any game setup by GoG. You don't need to mess with DosBox, everything is done for you. It even works with Win 7 64-bit if you're worried about that. I doubt very much that GoG could legally charge anything for this game. They would need to provide this as a freebie. Think about the time and trouble needed to make this game available and then not be able to sell it. But who knows? Maybe if Daggerfall receives about 20000 more votes and if GoG could use the installer I mentioned to save them a lot of trouble. I'm sure Ancestral Ghost would be honored to have his/her installer used on GoG.
This was was realeased for free in the aniversary of Elder Scrolls (or maybe Bethesda). You could put this along with Arena as free games, like Fallout 1.
Pleeease do a search on existing entries before registering a game! Already here: http://www.gog.com/en/wishlist/games/the_elder_scrolls_ii_daggerfall
@ginsengsamurai, that would be juicy-sweeeet!
