Irritating thing just happened. I set fire to the Inquisitor doll but I can't exit the screen. The mouse pointer changes to the back arrow but nothing happens when I click.

Can't find anything when I Google. Is this a known bug or maybe caused by my OS (W10)?

Update: Seems the game experiences random glitches like this. On the first try I couldn't approach the Monastery as well. Begun a new game and both things went well. I guess "save often" will be important. I'd still like to know if this is something the game was known for on its original release..?

Hi,

This is a late reply but can you try the DVD version we've uploaded and see if you're still having this issue?

yeah, it's a bit late ;)

But since I kind of got tired of the bugs and didn't finish the game last time I guess I could return and try it out again. Don't think the issues I encountered we're re-producable but will check it anyway.
Unfortunately, playing on my old save generated an error inside Jack's house (screen went bleck). Decided to restart the game only to end up at my original bug. :/

I had the exact same bug! By reloading and doing only the necessary options to get this far I could finally get past that scene...

Yeah, and I bet if you restart again you'll encounter another random set of bugs. Would like to play through the game but I just don't have the time for all these replays and reloads right now.
There is indeed another bug. When you combining the ZORK Rocks in the magic school before changing the infinite corridor NOTHING will happen, though in theory you could still have enough time to do what you're about to to with it. It seems, the game has only been tested in a specific order. These bugs are in there since the Z engine has been merged with scumm. There has been no change in Scumm 2.0 on that part. Still great to actually be playing it under windows 10 though.

It's been quite a long time since I played the game, so I'm not sure I understand you correctly, but I was able to activate the Zork Rocks to make them unstable while the corridor was still infinite when I tried it just now. So I guess you must have meant something else...?
That's strange because that's exactly what I've meant. I've got this bug in two playthroughs...

Just to be a little more sure, I replayed the game from the beginning. (Though I kind of sabotaged myself by not using the GOG version of the game, but rather a physical DVD version I bought years ago... and then use the development version of ScummVM that I compiled myself. :-)

I still had no problem activating the Zork Rocks before turning the infinite corridor into a regular corridor, and of course that means I also was able to pass the puzzle with the burning inquisitor doll mentioned earlier.

Other than the caveat about a possibly different game version and ScummVM version, the only thing I can think of is that only one of the sodas has that effect on the Zork Rocks, while the others do nothing. But I assume you knew that already.
Since April 2018 the GOG version was updated to use ScummVM v2.0 which should be significantly better than previous versions of ScummVM as well as ZEngine.
It looks like both the black screen in Jack's shop, and getting stuck on the burning doll, could be scripting bugs. See the following ScummVM bug reports for reference:

https://bugs.scummvm.org/ticket/10604
https://bugs.scummvm.org/ticket/10605

ScummVM already works around a couple of other such script bugs, so it should be possible to work around these as well. I've submitted possible workarounds for consideration, and if they're accepted these bugs should hopefully not happen again in the next version of ScummVM.
My workaround for getting stuck on the inquisitor doll scene was accepted while I was away on vacation, so hopefully it should work with the next stable version of ScummVM or (since I don't know when that will be released) the development version.
