What I'd like to know is who decided to remove the INSTALL.EXE file which allows to configure the sound options.

Regarding GOG.com "community". Well us customers are certainly this community, but GOG.com is really about making a profit.

The thing is they could ask people to beta test new games. For every game there are people that know a few games inside out and would spot such little bugs right away.

It's quite easy to fix things as long as the game is the same as the one we grew up with. But for some reason they love to strip out things for whatever reason and then things get more difficult.

Changing the sound card in Wing Commander is so easy, but when you remove INSTALL.EXE it suddenly becomes a lot more complicated.

PS: Playing Wing Commander with anything but a joystick is blasphemy...

Still no answer, so I'll ask too: can someone put here the entire contents of wingcmdr.cfg configured for Sound Blaster? My file just has four unreadable symbols. :(

sndwv: Just noticed this too after re-downloading the setup file from GOG. The a905 that's in there now does result in the correct sounds, so it's probably fixed. I imagine this is the same sound card setting as posted here but for slightly different BLASTER variables. Apparently GOG fixed this?
I have "v a904", not 905... this is definitively a mistery!
Maybe this helps: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/wing_commander_privateer/wc1_midi_sound_problem/page1
That link is dead.
Here you go:

(Looks like GOG changed the URL to the WC board)
