Hi,

I've got a question. You have your VR version of VoEC on Oculus Home store, for 30 bucks, and VR DLC on Steamfor 10. What about us on the GOG? How can we upgrade our version to play it with Oculus?
I'm interested, too.

But...

www.theastronauts.com/2016/04/vanishing-ethan-carter-vr-faq/

Do you plan on having the VR Edition DLC on GOG?
Not at the moment. We love GOG, but as far as we know GOG does not support the VR environment the way Oculus or Steam VR do.

And...

Can I get the Oculus key if I buy on Steam, and vice versa?

Here is the thing. A lot of people think of Oculus as a cool PC peripheral. Meanwhile, Oculus is a new platform, not a new peripheral. Oculus store is a competition to Steam in a way Windows 10 store is a competition to both of these. In other words, the above question is sort of like a “Can I get the Xbox key if I purchased the game for my PS4 and vice versa?”

Now, that would actually be cool, but it’s not something we have any control over.

Some developers do want to offer the Oculus key for Steam owners, but no one really knows how to do it. Because there’s just no link between these two separate platforms.

That's a shame. I'd be willing to pay the 10 for the dlc, but not buy the whole game again.

Hi Adrian,
As an owner of the GOG version of TVOEC, I'd be very interested in this as well. Greatly enjoyed playing through this game when it first came out, and would love to revisit it on my Oculus Rift when it arrives hopefully within in the next few weeks...Have my DK2 to hold me over in the meantime (also have an OSVR and a Vive on order). The VR version/ DLC would be a day one purchase for me. I'm hoping to see many more VR games supported on GOG in the near future.
I'll throw in my support for the VR version to be released here as well. I mean, if it is available on Steam, why shouldn't it be here as well.
Hi Adrian,

I sent you and e-mail two weeks ago:
"Hello!
I am an owner of the GOG version and the future CV1 (now I have a DK2).
Do you think is would be possible you provide me an steam key for the standard version (2d), so I can buy the VR DLC on steam and play it in VR?
Please, tell me what kind of proof you need in case it would be possible.
My username and e-mail both in GOG and steam are exactly the same: Cananas"

And your answer was: "have you got a proof of purchase from GOG for instance?"

So, I sent you another e-mail with a GOG purchase receipt (pdf file) and a screenshot of my screen showing my library and the game included.

Since then (two weeks ago, like I said), no answer from you.

You said that GOG does not have an VR environmet. OK, and? This is not a problem, only an excuse. Has the developvers of Elite Dangeruos and VR environment? I do not have this game in Oculus Home or in Steam, and I can play in VR.

Take P.O.L.L.E.N as example. I bought this game here, in GOG, and I can play in VR trough Oculus Home (after letting external apps).

Regards,

Hi Cananas,

We aim to respond to every single e-mail that we get. Yours must have been lost somewhere. Sorry about that.

Thanks for your feedback, everyone. We will think of a way to make it work for you. Can you tell me how developers of Elite Dangerous and P.O.L.L.E.N did it?

Best wishes

Don't know exactly, but AFAIK, you only need to use the Oculus SDK in case DK2, CV1, and steamVr SDK in case of VIVE. When you do this and run the game in VR, Oculus Home (in my case) will start.

I did not do anything special with POLLEN. I installed GOG version, and when I ran it, Oculus Home appeared.

EDIT: You can find more examples of VR implementation without need to be sold in Steam or Oculus: Life for Speed (You can try a free demo- http://www.lfs.net), or Duke Nukem VR (free download -http://www.malcolm-s.net/dukevr). You can also find the source code of this latter.

When you configure those games to use the rift, automatically the SDK 1.3 runs the OCulus Home in the background.

A buddy of mine is getting a CV1 and will be giving me his DK2 once it arrives. At that time, I would love to be able to get the VR version of Ethan Carter through GOG. Thank you in advance for hearing us out, Adrian!

Hello Adrian. Add my name to the list. Me and my wife recently got our Oculus CV1 and I have owned the GOG version of VoEC for a while and would really appreciate being able to use the VR version. I, too, would be willing to pay a little to get a VR edition DLC/Add-on for our game on GOG.

Thank you for the consideration.
I'd love to play Ethan on my Vive, but not so much as to buy the base game all over again.

For a proper GOG release, you'd need to make it so that the game supports both Oculus SDK and SteamVR (I assume you have separate builds for both platforms targeting the one particular API) or at the very least just SteamVR (since that works for the Oculus too, minus some features).
Count me in as someone who owns Ethan on GOG but would love to have a VR version. My Vive arrives tomorrow and when I saw this game available, I was like :D Then I saw the "must have it on Steam " requirement and went :(
My Rift just arrived yesterday and I would buy Ethan right now if I knew I get VR support to the GoG version! Ethan is -75% currently.

Still need to buy one of those fancy new GPU's to play though but that will happen very soon.
So I still need to buy the whole game over again on Steam to get the VR upgrade?

Really regretting my GOG purchase right now!
