To replace playing any of the ultima's with "spoony's" reviews is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a long time. That's like watching a review of a movie and saying you've watched the movie. No, to truly experience Ultima you got to actually play it yourself. There is a lot of little things that make the game great. You should experience it for yourself. I've played and beaten all of them, including akalabeth, and when you are done with it all, there is a great sense of satisfaction. ULTIMA IV is the one that you must play over all others though. It is the quintessential Ultima, and the Nintendo version was terrible. Play the PC version, or the Apple IIe version. Not the nintendo version. Man that was a terrible suggestion someone above me made. Especially if you've already played 1-3 and wasn't put off by the grafix. Ultima 4 is a step up from 3 and it's beautiful. The nintendo version was dumbed down, and the game play is much different. I'd personally skip the nintendo version, as if it didn't even exist. But that's just my opinion. But if you likes 1 through 3, then why go for a completely different version of the game, that doesn't make much sense. The Lazerous version of V is nice to look at, but again, it's not really an ultima game, the way ultima was intended, and I've had the Lazerous version crash on my so many times and the glitches are unbearable, for me. This is just my opinion as a fan since Ultima 1 was originally released. Peace.
I don't think Ultima 1 & 2 are particularly good games; maybe the idea of a role-playing game with a huge open world that lets you fly into space and do all sorts of cool things like shooting space ships or traveling back in time was pretty novel back in the day, but the games suffer from a sever lack of balance. That's why I would recommend watching Spoony's videos, you get what the game is about and move on to the games that are actually good. Ultima III would have been quite a neat game if the food-consumption and monster spawn rate were not totally out of balance, forcing you to grind like crazy just to buy food t not starve. That's not fun.
