Macos10: I have been trying to setup Exult in OSX but changing the config file is a complete nightmare for me :(

HiPhish: Actually you don't need to touch the config file at all. The important part is to put the Ultima VII files in the global Library, not the local user Library. There is usually a local and a global version of everything, the idea is that certain things should work for all users and cetain things for each user individually. The Exult documentation says that both work, but I only found the gobal Library to work. There you need to just drop in the "gamedat" and "static" folders of the game. I've included a little screenshot of the correct path
As the writer of Exult's documentation I beg to differ. We do *NOT* say that you can put the game files in your local Library. See Exult Documentation
The only thing that gets put in the user Library are the savegames and the gamedat folder (which is the quicksave in some fashion).
Other than that, thanks for pointing out Exult and explaining where to put the game files.
I'll write a short guide in our documentation on how to use that new OS X installer for U7 (next few days).

I'm sorry, I must have confused it with Nuvie or xu4 then, or some totally different source port. Anyway, since you are the writer, let me thank you personally for writing such an extensive documentation, it really helped me get started immediately.

On an unrealted note, I have just been messing around with Exult a little bit to see if it works, but what is the general status? I mean, is there going to be a version 1.5 or just snapshots? And are those snapshots reliable are is the term unstable to be taken seriously?
Snapshots get new changes that are untested except for whatever the code writer performed before adding the code. It should usually be better than the latest release, but sometimes there are some nasty bugs added (as unfortunately happened several times recently). I recommend using the newest snapshot. I don't know of any new major issues with the current snapshot that would cause it to be worse than the release.

There are some more bugs that we want to fix before the next release and we will probably wait for more testing (ie. playing all the way through BG and SI). We cannot give a good time frame as to when the next release will be. Most of the bug fixing is being done by Marzo at the moment. I nominated Dominus to play through the games. We also have a couple people playing through the latest snapshots and doing some reporting back.
yup, Malignant is right with all he wrote...

Especially because of the fixed infamous "objects disappearing bug" I recommend snapshots, too.

If you happen to play, please report all bugs to us :)
Thanks for the answers, from looking at the site it looked like nothing had been going on with the project for years, so I wasn't sure if the snapshots were just someone tinkering around, or automatically built in certain time intervals or if there was really something going on. I don't intend to play it anytime soon though, I'm not yet ready for such a long game, too much stuff to do. (I did beat Ultima Underworld few days ago though)
