I've been trying to use the save game editor to add a ship but I'm running into a problem - whenever I click New Boat At the editor just closes. Is there anything I can do?

HiPhish: I'm starting to feel like an idiot in some sort of mental test. I need a boat to get to Ambrosia and the small islands, but there are no boats to be found. From what I gathered I am supposed to hope for a pirate ship to appear, take the crew out and board the ship. I've walked the coasts of Sosaria several times and haven't seen a single boat. Come to think of it, even the serpents and squids have stopped spawning. Am I missing something? Do I need a certain level? I wouldn't even mind hacking my game files if I knew what to do.

This walking back and forth is really boring, ther eis no challenge in it, I'm not even doing anything aside from fighting some trivial critters. Of course all that nonesense ends up wasting my food, so I need to spend more gold on food, but I cannot buy stat boost without gold, so I need to grind even more! Did they even playtest this thing properly? I mean let a person who doesn't know anything about the game play from begging to end? Or am I stuck in some sort of bizzare bug? So far the first trilogy has been an unbalaced mess not worth the time.
Hi, thought I would chime in here regarding scarcity of the boats un Ultima 3. I have played through a bunch of times over the years and it was a long wait every time for boats to appear but they always did eventually. I am assuming it is a minimum amount of moves before the random generator allows boats. I just played through now and the first boat did not appear until 96,000 moves. I also noted how hyper-active the whirlpool is - even if you stand still the whirlpool really buzzes around quickly so it may also be that fact it is able to destroy boats before you even get a chance at them - but based on previous experience I really think it is more based on moves - maybe as a balance to prevent from either winning to quickly or making sure you probably have the skill and gold necessary to make a trip to ambrosia worth it. If you grind out gold to get 9999 food you could surround your self in chests on the world map and put your phone on the spacebar and "grind" out the move clock :).

The whirlpool moves so fast because you're running the game on a computer that's too fast for the game.

If you use the Ultima 3 upgrade mod, the game will be forced to not run too fast, and the whirlpool will move at a reasonable speed.

One note: The upgrade mod has the option to disable autosaving. Be aware that the trick (glitch?) that allows you to get a boat without waiting for one to spawn relies on the autosave, so if you disable it, you won't be able to get the boat.

Also, I believe there's a limit to the number of enemies on the world map; once it's reached, no more will spawn unless you kill one of them (or the whirlpool gets to it, if it's an aquatic monster). (This can be an issue if enemies have spawned in an area that's only reachable by moongates or the 30MP Wizard spell, which you can't cast without first visiting Ambrosia to gain Intelligence.)
I can remember playing Ultima 3 back when it was on 5 and 1/4 inch floppy disk. One thing I remember very clearly is that it took forever to get a ship. I was very ready to go to ambrosia when I finally got the ship.
For the younger crowd here is how I got games originally.
