I ask because I read a summary by someone who says it's about 15 hours long. I'm just not into paying $45 for episodic games of a short duration.

PoE with both White March expansions is well over 100 hours--I've got 111 in it now according to the in-game timer, and I'm not finished yet! I'm just not into the whole "episodic" approach. If I knew that Tyranny right now would play for at least 60 hours or more I'd buy it. But I am not interested at all in a 15-hour game for much more than $9.99...;) But maybe this person was talking about blowing through the game--main quests exclusively. *Are* there "side quests" and so on? Just curious.

I suspect it depends on whether you're interested in only getting to the end or exploring the various gameplays. I'm still on the first major quest (I presume there's more than one), and it's been some 7 hours or more. There's a lot of reading and, if you're usually a "good guy", a lot of decisions to make (very few of them good)

OK--thanks...sounds like an unusual game! Most of the time when I've heard people complain of short duration in RPGs it's because they've rushed through to the end. I'm still weighing an imminent purchase of Tyranny atm...!

I'm currently 16 hours in and it doesn't feel like I'm anywhere near the end. While reports say that the completionist run is around 25 hours or so, keep in mind Tyranny is not a long game, but it's a very 'thick' game - your decisions actually matter and your various playthroughs can be very different.

Reports also say that the ending is somewhat rushed tho.

That's what I read on the Paradox forum. I also read there are 3 Acts, so the game definitely isn't "short".

I have to admit, though, getting used to the GUI is taking me more time than usual (and I've been playing crpgs since the Gold Box DnD days)

The UI is horrible. It's busy, clunky and the worst of all, they already nailed it with Pillars, so what on Earth were they trying to "fix" in Tyranny?

I agree totally. I can only assume the games had different project leaders or the tyranny crew had to justify getting spending more money.

It's times like this when I wish software was "plug 'n play".
Took me around 12 hours to finish it, but I'm hearing that 20h is average. There's a ton of replayability and a multitude of different decisions to make, big and small.
42h36 for my first run (path of the damned), my second run is really a new game!

Don't hesitate to explore EVERYWHERE! There's some secrets hidding...

Yes, PoE has shaped up to be a fantastic game, imo, with the expansions complete and the patching done for the most part--it's 95% cohesive and coherent! I've really enjoyed it. They did much in PoE after the first iteration--some additional features I agreed with but as these are basically optional settings, what's not to like? If people don't like some of the changes they can turn them off--like the auto-AI fighting for the characters, for instance. PoE is a great game--far better than the original iteration, imo.

Thanks to everyone who's responded, but I think I may wait awhile to see how Tyranny shapes out over the next couple of months...;)

Thanks so much for the info! Very interesting!

The game is around 15-30(depends on the reading speed) hours with doing all the possible quests. There is around 10 side quest that can be finished without noticing. The game feels like a demo to be honest. There are 3 acts. The first feels good and it is well made. The last act is like 2 hours going around and killing your enemies. As a whole the game is unfinished and disappointing,in the second half it is obvious.Good example is the acquiring of the spires, the first two have and extensive dungeons while the last two are just go there read some paper and you get it.In the whole game i was in 3 or 4 dungeons(depends on what you count as a dungeon).Ooo and the choices are so stupid. There was a choice to save one of two people that are about 20 meters from each other.I split my party and attacked the enemies but one of them dies even if there is nobody around them.
Content-wise, the game is extremely short, yes.
So, from what I see it's not worth buying for a full price if the playthrough is even 30 hours... unless Obsidian pulled something like Age of Decadence where a different character allegiance means you're playing almost an entirely different game.

I just finished the game and yes it was short - not terribly short but the fact that the story really seems to step off just as the game ends leaves me feeling I have just played a prologue.

Obviously it is up to you, but, I do wonder how you reach the conclusion that the game is not worth the price even if it is at 30 hours, for a single playthrough. Not including different characters, different playstyle, different decisions etc.
