From my messing about installing on a few different computers trying to get a fully working game I've found that the patch has always said it's incompatible. The first computer won't play the intro videos to TR2 and TR3, but gameplay is absolutely fine, TR1 plays the videos but doesn't launch the actual game. On two other computers (again with an incompatible patch) TR3 gives a failed to initialise error but runs perfectly (as far as I can tell from a quick play) once the setup program has been run.
For me all three games are running but with some caveats.

Tomb Raider 1 - I reach the main menu but when I launch game (either Lara's home or Main game) it gets stuck just before it loads the cut scene. At this point, if I do ALT CTRL DEL and launch task manager, the cut scene loads in a game window and the game resumes. After this, I can start playing the game in windowed mode. Or, I can save it. Quit TR1 entirely and re-launch and resume from the saved game and I get full screen gameplay.

Tomb Raider 2 - Same as Tomb Raider 1, except that I don't have to do the ALT CTRL DEL step. After the cut scene plays, the game simply runs in window mode. I can do the save, quit, re-launch as above to get full screen gameplay.

Tomb Raider 3 - Perfect! No issues whatsoever.

I think the FMV sequences use some technology which conflicts with modern windows full screen thing.

Hope this has helped others. Oh, I did not have to install the patch. I think the latest installers already include it. I am not facing any audio issues either.
Hey - issues I'm having... hopefully someone has ideas. I scoured the forum but couldn't find anything conclusive.

TR 1- Freezes before first FMV sequence... did task manager prompt and it can be played windowed. No big deal.

TR 2- AWFUL color rendering. Bricks show up pink and blue.

TR 3- Won't even launch. It crashes as soon as I double click the .exe. Tried compatibility mode but that didn't work.

Thanks guys!

Try running the Graphic Mode setup utility found in the Start menu item for the game and don't run the executable files directly, use the short cut from the Start menu instead.

neonbible: Sorry guys, can anyone confirm that the installer we download now includes the patch?

I tried reinstalling and haven't touched any settings but it still says incompatible.

Also what *exactly* does it fix?
Apparently the so called patch that won't install includes fixes for the games, but since I can't get it to install and since gog seems to be doing nothing about it I guess we'll never know!
I'm terribly afraid to say but, is there any solutions for fmv problems occurring with TR 2-5?
I still can't play these games because of that :(

Why does the game play the FMV's in 320x200 fullscreen? Why can't the game upscale them to your desktop resolution
Unless I'm missing something the patches aren't available for download here on gog anymore? Would be cool if I could play these games properly.
Edit: Guessing maybe the patch is unnecessary though with the new install?
Can play tr3 just fine it seems, and 1 UB but having trouble with 1. :V

Can we have the same thing with AoD ?

I just did a quick search for any unofficial mods and patches this game might have and found this :
tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=204371

It's quite huge and it can get difficult to understand what's the best way to get the best looking game while also installing the gameplay fixes.

Maybe start with the TRAOD Updater from Suikaze Raider ?

I think these fixes deserve at least to be included in the Game's description just like System Shock 2.

Does anyone (such as GOG staff) know where I can get this update that "fixes the Tr2 music loop bug" I was forced to play my old disk copy which was a little corrupt with time and overuse I think due to cutscenes in the disk going out of sync within 1 or 2 seconds and ambient tracks playing only once and failing to play again after a music track. FMVs were fine though.

The patch doesn't appear to be available in the new installer. The music in TR 2 still loops albeit only the actual music, TR 3 crashes after entering the options menu but this one is just a minor complaint as the game runs fine and TR 1 has no video in its FMV sequences, just the audio. I know this because I deleted my tomb raider files and downloaded the new installer just today, only to find out that not only were the bugs not fixed, but the installer was exactly the same as the one I already had upon closer examination.

Is there another update? I've just 'upgraded' to Windows 10 and now the games won't run at all - clicking the icon does nothing.

For some stupid reason, some games in Windows 10 run as a background process instead of running properly, when they were fine on Windows 8. It isn't just Tomb Raider that has this problem; it's also to the best of my knowledge: Pro Pinball Timeshock (Windows version), Prince of Persia 3D and even the setup for some of the Tomb Raider disks.

I don't know what causes it and fiddling with the compatibility settings and running as admin only worked for the TR2 Gold setup. Searching for similar complaints on google didn't yield much either.
I finally got TR2 working with patches from Tomb Raider Chronicles (you have to move the files from the download into the game folder, you can't just run the update) but TR3 is just not cooperating at all.

Every time I try to run it I get an black screen then an error message saying "Tomb Raider 3 Failed to Initialise, Please Run Setup"

Disks do not get corrupt; it must be you disk drive playing up.

So the puzzles start before you lot even get to play the game - the puzzles in the game itself would be far easier to solve!
