Nope. Not that I remember...

Nowhere. It's all based on some short appearances on the Steam site as being SteamOS/Linux. This was removed within hours, but since then the rumors won't stop. Then there is an vague expectation based on the fact that TW2 was published for Linux. Those things combined gave hope for the hopeful that there would be an TW3 Linux version. In reality, however, I guess the chances are not that big. I would love to see it, but reality calls...
It has been confirmed they will communicate a release date for the Linux version soon. What I don't understand is why do you buy games on a platform that clearly states Windows only for system requirements?

EDIT: clarity

shishimaru1000: Let's hope it'll be a good port. Witcher 3 on Windows runs better than Witcher 2 on Linux for me. Virtualization kills performance.
Not as bad as one would think. I manage it well on WINE- but then, I've got this brutally powerful machine, whether you're talking my Desktop or Laptop. I see roughly the same performance in WINE as I do on Windows. I think the problem's more the solution they used when they should've looked into working with Codeweavers if they weren't going to do a direct port. At least the Windows version works well enough for me to have played most of it courtesy of a gift to me from family.

I'm...unsure...of that myself. Seems counterproductive. Only reason I have Witcher 1 & 2 is because of a gift from a family member due to their understanding I can make almost anything Windows run under Linux in VirtualBox or WINE and thought the challenge of getting them going was as much the present as the game.

Since I do Game Ports...it really does strike me as being counterproductive unless I'm porting the title in question or helping the studio do the work.

Any update on linux support? I assume galaxy is the bottleneck?

hellotoonie: I got this because of the advertised Linux support, but I'm not seeing it in the downloads. A bit fearful, naturally, that I've wasted my money.
Any word on how/when this will be released?
Cheers.
To the best of my knowledge, CD Projekt RED has never publicly stated anywhere any intent to make The Witcher 3 available for Linux. When the game was announced and it was added to Steam for pre-sale, Valve or someone screwed up and had SteamOS enabled as a platform for a few days until the error was discovered and fixed. But nowhere was the game ever advertised to be available for Linux.

Having said that, hopefully they do make a Linux port of it some day, but to be clear they've never said they would.

The issue is they've never claimed there would ever be a Linux version of the game, so there's no update to report on. :)

I was waiting for Linux version before I got the expansion pass. I'm patient. Got plenty of other things to play in meantime.
Any update on W3 from CDPR? Or Galaxy for that matter?

I am also interested in this.

A Linux version would be excellent.

There was never realistically going to be a Linux version.

"You know, one of the reasons we have not released The Witcher on Linux is that we most probably have to address five different versions of Linux and this is always terrible to support the quality of the games afterwards. The patches, the updates, and everything. If Steam will deliver a constant Linux environment, call it SteamOS or anything like that, we would love to have our games there because, you know, the more people play our games, the better for us."

I don't think there will ever be a Linux version.
Including their new software, it seems that they are not going to support linux. The company has strategically abandoned the Linux operating system.

They just don't have resources to port the game. That will be the honest answer. Because people who actually release linux games just say "we only support Ubuntu x , Debian x, SteamOS, if you have something different - you're on your own, here's the list of required libraries."

Also situation is the same with Windows - some games work well in 7, don't work or got glitches in 10 or vice versa.

The honest answer was the answer given. Don't liken Windows to Linux, in all of its flavours.
LOL, the honest answer is that their "honest answer" is bullshit. Itch.io, Steam, Humble, and GOG themselves already release thousands of Linux games. That they just don't know what to do about different distros is a very tired argument. Steam uses a Steam Runtime. Other games simply include everything needed along with the game, including GOG games. Flatpak handles runtimes and helps to ensure portability. If GOG was really confused about what to do, there are lots of different solutions for them to choose from that may be better than the way they are already doing it right now. Either way, none of that is any excuse for Witcher 3 or Galaxy not having been released for Linux yet while we play thousands of other titles, including Witcher 2 and other GOG titles, and run Steam and Itch.io game clients.
