Hi, since yesterday I've been reading on the internet all sorts of responds to the new Complete release. Mostly negative. Some very hostile. I haven't played the new version yet. It is installing while I'm writing this post. To be honest I don't have to. I already made my mind about this whole phenomenon. I strongly believe in free speech. I am aware that in the game industry most customers are just more or less spoiled brats (look up ... free speech and all). Well aren't we all in this era of instant pleasures? Now I'm just trying to bring a little background and objectivity to this "hate train". I'm not talking about sharing your views which is normal and expected but just doing so in an aggresive and not at all constructive manner.

Here is what I think:

1) New version of the game is fully optional. Don't want it. Don't install it.
2) New version of the game is completely free as are all previous DLC's (size of the original game as you know but maby forgot).
3) People working on this release have very good intentions. No doubt about that. Whether they delivered what PR promised? I don't know. It is irrelevant for me (vide point1) and 2))
4) I consider this free and optional release as a completely new take on this game and I believe it should be treated as such.
5) It's been what? 1,5 day since the release? Seriously? Haven't you noticed that new istallation files are now 80 instead of 40GB?
6) All major studios have their pros and cons. When was the last time some other huge AAA studio gave you something for free?
7) The new Witcher comes not only with graphical blows and whistles but also many other features and tweaks, some of which were integrated directly from popular mods. Most of them are optional and you can control them via menu.
8) I think that CDA and especially people behind it deserve our gratitude. They came forward with this new idea, putting hundreds hours of work and commitment into the project. They definitely have my gratitude.

Love the game. Respect the creators. Thank you very much.

Did they give you the game for free? When you buy something expensive, the least you want is for it to work properly. Which is not the case. I love the game too, but this update didn't work for me and I have every right to come here and complain.

Note: I bought the game, I didn't pirate it.

However, I understand what you meant. Let's give them some time to work on a patch. hopefully it will work....
Can agree with most things the OP said.

But have to add that they indeed performed the whole thing quite clumsily once again, starting for example with stuff like calling it an update/patch instead of a new standalone game, as is done with pretty much all other "remastered" games I know of.

Also... "expensive"? What? This was/is literally free!
Contrary to many other "remastered" games like GTA or Diablo 2... (where Blizzard even by intend capped classic/remaster crossplay compatibility to force sales of the fullprice remaster, even blaming PluggY users for it and other bs-excuses for such an a-hole-move)

So thumbs up to CDPR... for, well, right now... the intention and... a good try... but maybe more in the future.

You bought the ORIGINAL GAME, and it works for you, however, If the FREE UPDATED version doesn't work for you, you haven't lost any money, and can roll back to the original version and continue to play.
So, you can't complain that you wasted any money, so NO, you don't have "every right to come here and complain", because you didn't have to pay for the update.

P.S. I doubt the update is going to work for me, because I'm still using an old GTX 750 Ti, so all of the new stuff I'll have to turn off anyways, besides, I might roll back because not all of the mods I use have been updated for 4.0
But I'm not going to complain about it, because the update was free, and quite a surprise, especially for a SEVEN YEAR OLD GAME.

Yeah? How wonderful it is that you don't complain! That's good for you! You really convinced me not to complain when something I expected so much doesn't work.
let's spread the message guys! Don't complain when something doesn't work! because it's free I can't complain! A hail to the non-complainers!

Just to correct some of the facts above and add my subjective opinions :)

Point 2 - "new version of the game is free as are all the previous DLCs" - not really, they are not free. We paid for them when they were released. The fact that later they were bundled into multiple "re-releases" does not make them free.

Point 3 - I don't know what intentions the people had - can't read into their minds. I can see the outcome of the work, and that is what matters. If you had good intentions at your own workplace but massively screwed up a project, should you be congratulated? Now I'm not saying that this is what happened here, but does not look very good so far.

Point 4 - as a free and optional release, this should have been made a standalone game (just like W3 GOTY edition was - you could install it separately if you so desirerd). But no, CDPR chose to overwrite what you had installed and then make it difficult for you to roll back. Why? Dunno, can't read the intentions, only the outcome.

Point 5 - why, or WHY did CDPR have to bundle all the languages together? After all the sh*t that went their way after they bundled all the languages in Cyberpunk? Which were separate before in W3? Intentions, intentions...

Point 6 - honestly, I'd rather get another Blood of Wine quality add-on (which I have to pay for) than collection of mods and slight graphic updates. Yes, it now has RTX. Can I really see it on side-by-side comparison - yes, sort of. Does it look substantially better? No, not really. Witcher 3 aged amazingly well, so the original game released in 2015 was indeed revolutionary, and the two DLCs were amazingly good. The rest was really a waste of time (IMHO). But this is what the whole industry is doing - there is next to zero original content, and endless remakes trying to flog a dead horse to see if it will still jump a bit more.

Point 8 - if this came with significant new content (B&W or H of S size), then my gratitude would be right there with yours. For a collection of mods and graphical tweaks - I'm not sure this was time well spent. Well other than to try and see how many more copies of the same old game can we sell to new users.

I really hope that CDPR still has the spark to produce a worthy W3 successor. CP2077 and what happened afterwards do not feel me with confidence, I must say.

Yea, way to take the entire message incorrectly.
Thing is, I paid for the game 7 years ago. It works.
I just updated it, it with the FREE UPDATE, and I get script errors.
I'm going to roll back to the 1.32 version.
I HAVE LOST NO MONEY IN THE PROCESS.

Stop being so entitled to a FREE UPDATE, it didn't cost you anything but time to download it.

The problem is that CDPR's mouths have been writing checks these past years which their project management skills obviously can't cash.

If a friend tells you, months in advance, that next time you meet each other at the bar, he'll pay you an amazing free drink - and then gives you a glass of stale sparkling water - would you be gratuitous because it's still free?

It's about promises made and unkept.

That's one side of the story, for the free upgrade. The other side is that some people had their working 1.32 game updated and find it broken, and others, legitimate owners, want to redownload the 1.32 offline installers and those links are broken too (which they weren't before 13nd December).

So, for some people, this actually damaged stuff they had paid money for. And there's no excuse for that, ever.
@cglk:
Unfortunately, the old version (1,31 or 1.32) can NOT be downloaded since the release of the new one. I'm sure the issue will be fixed (hopefully soon), but not without customers making noise, unfortunately.
I'd prefer GOG acknowledged the issue and announced a date by when the download will work again. And why they removed it in the first place - did they seriously expect all customers to jump on the new train? Well ...

Just this issue alone makes it questionable that GOG would agree with your points 1) and 4), that the upgrade is OPTIONAL At least it doesn't seem to have been their original intention. Even leaving aside the issue which of the two "optional" versions will be patched and updated in the future (both? I doubt it).
Truely optional would be either two different games (both maintained), or one core game (maintained) with the option to download additional content.

I was excited playing the game with mods. It was perfect. The announcement of the new update, with all its improvements and new content was tempting. So I uninstalled the game and all mods. I waited for the update to come out, installed it and it sucked. So you're telling me that I can't complain? Where is the logic in that? just because the update is free? Seriously?

What do you want us to do? Be happy, and grateful, go back to the old version, reinstall all mods AGAIN, and restart the game (the save is lost) without complaining because there is no money involved in the update?

Gratitude for having broken the game not only in the DX12 version but also in the DX11? Gratitude for breaking what wasn't broken? Gratitude for blatantly lying to us again?
Ha, ha, ha! It's one of the dumbest thing I've ever read about it.
"Broken DX11"? So the backup of the DX11 Version the game creates under "...\bin\x64\" when installing the next-gen Version does not work for you?
With that Game runs with old performacne and ultra+ settings as well as gameplay tweaks and the new quest. No RT ofc.
Rollback to 1.32 worked as well through Galaxy. Only the broken offline installer links are a bummer, agreed.
