I am soon about to start playing the Witcher 3. Indeed, I am currently downloading it on my glacially slow internet connection. This is the third day of downloads and it is likely that it will complete today.

In any case, I am wondering, if I start playing the Witcher 3 now and later buy the expansion pass (which I will wait for the next sale to purchase), will I be able to continue right into the expansions from my saves? It is likely I will be somewhere in the middle of the game by then and wanting to continue, rather than restarting from scratch.

Yes, absolutely. In fact the expansions are all played from within the game: they are treated as major quests, available from the notice board of the Seven Cats. The only thing you should be aware of is the levels. HoS is set around level 30. B&W is set around level 35+ . This means if you continue your game (without the expansions) and level past 30-35, you will be penalised XP-wise, as with any quest. So stop playing at level 30 until you get the pass.
Great, thanks for the answer. :)
