A lot of the time when an enemy is 10 feet too far, Geralt will auto-sheathe which interrupts my attack and it's pretty annoying and even takes out of the immersion a bit.

I go to attack an enemy and he sheathes his weapon then instead punches them, which of course does less damage and can leave me open. Please add an option to turn it off or remove it, what's the point in being able to manually sheathe if he does it on his own. Though I noticed sometimes he won't, not sure why. Also, even little amount of time it takes him to draw his weapon can be a bit too long when you're trying to parry.

Geralt auto-sheathe when he is no more in "combat".
So, if you are "too far" from enemies, he left the "fight".
Maybe the range need to be extended.

And please, use the metric system.

I'm aware of that, but he doesn't always do so which is weird. But when he does, it's usually when there are still enemies around, just not in combat range. But, still close enough for you to see them or a couple paces puts him back into combat.

I'm actually curious as to why they gave him an auto-sheathe being that there are 2 manual ways to do so. C and the button the weapon is bound to.

I absolutely agree! This mechanic really does not work very well at all. I would like an option to turn it off and instead control sheathing manually.

And you don't have to use the metric system just because some people don't understand it.

Yeah, I normally dislike auto-sheathing. But, this is the first game I came across where it actually bothers me from a gameplay standpoint. I tend to make space for enemies that leap a lot, but sometimes I or they back off a bit too far and he sheathes. This has led me to being unable to counter attack from a leap/charge and it's pretty irritating. That and when it's a human, I lose a chance to parry as well

Didn't think a small mechanic like that could actually be this bothersome

Called "International System of Units" for a reason no ?
Like I -try- to speak english, so you can understand what i'm talking about right ?

Anyway, about OP problem. I take my sword before the encounter, so I don't have this problem.
Or maybe I was just "lucky enough" no not get this problem :/

It happens during an encounter, that's my problem. I usually draw beforehand too unless I didn't seem them coming, but he does it on his own anyway.

No worries about the unit system, I'm a filthy American is all :P

Did you try to keep an enemy "locked" ? (Default bind is W/Z)
I like the auto sheathing, personally. I just pull out my sword in those rare instances (for me at least) when an enemy is still around. I like the manual sheath options because sometimes geralt pulls out his sword but i want to run by, not fight.

The lock has a certain distance, it's also a hindrance when there are multiple enemies

I don't mind it being in the game, I'd just like an option to turn it off. Maybe even turn off auto draw and remove the color indication for the type of enemy, would allow more skill to be involved to know what type of enemy it is

But you will speak to the French in French, right? Because it'll be more convenient for you.
Besides, he's American, Mayflower, grand-grand-...-grand-parents from Britain, so it's no surprise he prefers imperial system. Like you and me prefer metric system. Different people used to different systems. And it's internet era, you may always use a converter.
This sure can cause problems...

Auto sheathing killed me once: was kiting a pack of wolves and as i moved back in, and re-acquired their attention, Geralt decided to sheath just as a charging wolf got close enough to for its icon to show up. Literally he started to sheath just as the icon showed up... so he was still in the sheathing animation (just at the end) as he got hit. :( and lol.
I have had the same problem, got killed by a level 5 wolf just because i weapon sheathed as soon as i went into combat. To be fair, I'd actually like C to be changed to a sheath/unsheath toggle instead as i find myself mashing it instead when shit hits the fan and geralt puts his weapon away! (I.e. unsheath the last weapon equiped or unsheath the most suitable sword for that enemy). Thats just my opinion though!
Auto-sheathing just part of the problem. When game thinks that battle is over or didn't start yet blocking and dodgerolls are not available. And you'll be in agro range of archers way before battle-mode kicks in. My Geralt chest-catched numerous arrows before I figured I must sprint in a group of enemy.

I don't like this either. I want to manually have to draw my sword for role playing reasons and the small possibility I might make the mistake of choosing the wrong sword with an usual enemy could be a lost opportunity to swear out loud.
