Hello!
First I'm glad Witcher 2 is available on Mac, but:

Which mac is supposed to run this!?

I have already finished the game in Windows 7, I ran with high settings with AA with and FPS from 50-60 FPS never dipping below 40 FPS.

The same machine is not capable of maintaining 20 FPS on lowest settings in Mac OSX!
Also the port totally locks down the system while running. You cannot minimize game or even tab out! If skype calls or I have to check my mail I have to shut down the game!

I have a NVidia GTX285 1024MB (this card is 50% faster than the recommended GT650M)
I also run on a Vertex 3 SSD and have 16GB RAM and I'm on Mountain Lion.

Attaching OpenGL profiler shows the game runs at around 15-20FPS, my graphics card is maxed (90-100% utilization) and i use a mere 30% of my CPU power, not even maxing one core. GPU memory usage goes from about 600-650MB.

I would suspect lower performance in OSX, no doubt, but going from 60 FPS on high settings to 15-20FPS on low settings is not what i expected.

Unless there is some driver issues with my specific card, then this port is 100% broken. The game runs better in wine.

Note, i'm not tossing out numbers here, the FPS on win7 was measured with EVGA precision and i used OpenGL profiler from XCode to measure performance on Mac OSX.

Here s a video on youtube playing witcher 2 on 6750M(MBP 2011) under windows

Above 30 FPS

Surely there is a problem with the porting

I think CDP used Cider or Wine to port the game. These emulation wrapper only support a single core. I've seen similar issues with games ported using this method. Perhaps try the portingteam.com website for an unofficial wrapper for the windows version. Those folks typically do better work than EA. It would not surprise me if they beat CD Project too.

Hi! The game is ported by virtual programming and it's not cider nor wine. The port you are linking is actually made by me :p and it is actually slightly faster on my system .. However you are limited to version 2.0 of the game, so no enhanced edition

Btw both cider and wine have had multi core support for quite some time.

U guy from norway, and u did this post 6hours ago, that is to say...5am, lol

Could i know which software u used to monitor the fps? Tested with rmbp yesterday.
OK, at 1400*900 low setting the feel it's just playable. Can say no more without data of fps
Hi cluthz,
I have some serious performance problems too !
I try to play the game on a new Retina Macbook with Mountain Lion 10.8.2 installed but only get maybe 15 fps on lowest settings at 1440x900.

So it is not really playable for me now ...
Same issues here. Using a macbook pro retina and with everything stripped down to either off or low in 'The Witcher 2' performance is terrible.
I have a retina macbook too. I expected it to be at least playable. But when everything is on low in 1440x900 its just too few fps to be playable.

And I found this in the system requirements:
Please note: Nvidia is constantly perfecting the graphics drivers for Mac Book Pro with the Nvidia 650M Graphics Card. Until they provide an update the performance in the game on Macs with 600 Series nVidias may not measure up to usual levels.Patched to version 3.0
I hope the drivers is worked out soon.

Well my GTX285 has been around for awhile, so they have no excuse there.

I must admit i have difficulties being angry at CDPR and GoG, but now I'm at least very disappointed. Firstly because the port should not have been released in it's current state, but secondly and most because there have been absolutely no response anywhere. I have sent a mail to support, no response. Posted at the official forums, no response. I've also read on just about ever forum there is (relevant to this game) and there are many complaints and no answers.
Hi,
the perfomance of the Retina Macbook got much better after installing the latest CUDA Driver for Mac.
I know Cuda is meant for calculating CPU intense Tasks on GPUs but there also seems to be a driver update for the GT650M inside the package.

At least at 1440x900 with low settings framerates are good now !

I have tried to look around and I found mostly your messages. These things should have been worked out before they have been released. And if macs track record is anything to judge then I don't think nvidia is going to update the mac drivers either.

Tested the cuda drivers, didn't do any difference for me. Maybe a step closer to being playable, but not enough.

I've tested them too, no improvement.
It seems AMD users are much better of currently, and seeing as NVidia has been kept in the dark from Apple from 2010 until now there really are two configs that can play this. MacPro with GTX285 and the RMBP. My guess is that at least my hardware is "too exotic" to be considering, seeing it was only available as a custom option for the MacPro, which is a shame because it's still the 2 or 3rd fastest graphics option for a mac.

I guess my enhanced edition play through will be in win7, which isn't that much of a hassle, but I was just looking forward to play it in OSX.

Thanks! I learned something new today. Please keep making all the great ports!
