I'm certain this will draw some flak but I'm really hoping the two games can be activated on Steam for consolidation, achievements, cloud-saving and game time recording.
Voluntary activation has always been A-OKAY with me. It's when you start making titles steamworks only that I rage. Seriously considering not buying DNF for that reason and I've been waiting for that title since the 90's.

What?!! No Physical Disk to DNF?
Duke Nukem 3d was my first pruchased Video game.

You can still buy it on DVD, but you have to use Steam, just like Fallout: New Vegas and others.

Personally, I don't like Steam, and hate being forced to use it.
Like a few other posters, I wouldn't mind voluntary activation, as long as it's not forced.

The problem becomes what's in it for Steam? They provide cloud saves/achievements, but gain nothing if another retailer has the sale.

I don't see GoG offering a portion of their sale cut to let people register it on Steam, so the only way it'd ever happen is if Steam charged you (as the user) to voluntarily activate it.

But stopping to play because of it is silly. Is it for the same reason you might not like Facebook?
wouldn't mind paying a small fee to have it activated.
though that kinda spoils the point of getting some of the games on sale in the first place.

I don't know how it goes exactly but some games bought on gamestop/d2d/etc can be activated on steam
I always add my games to steam as shortcuts, to get the benefit of the overlay, and to keep my desktop free of icons. That said, I really wish steam could track gametime of non-steam games. How hard can it possibly be for an already active overaly track how long the game's *.exe file has been running?

i wish steam had a auto-scan. that scanned for games you own and added them to the list like Xfire does.. disable-ably of course.

They already can, as they are both sold on Steam too. For the small fee you must wait for Steam low cost sellings.

you got me all excited.
tried to activate my GOG copy of TW2 but Steam says it's an invalid product code.

Lol. For sure GOG can't activate on Steam. Just buy another copy on Steam if you want it on Steam.

edit: Oops.

If I didn't already have it on Steam (and GOG), I would have been disappointed when trying to activate it. Wish they made that clearer.

JDV72: The Witcher 2 has been added to the list of retail keys activated on Steam for those of you who purchased a physical copy.
False information. It is only for C1/Russian versions of the game. Retail keys CANNOT be registered on Steam.
