By "2003 Workstation" I guess you mean XP 64, which is a crippled Server 2003.

The enhanced security (2003 and 2008 are servers; "out of box" they have security settings that defeat applications that try to use the Internet) will probably give you some headaches with registration and updates.

Don't expect to run the game over Terminal Server. Otherwise the game is likely to work just fine.

Windows 2003 SBS 32 bit SQL but used as an INTRA-net and my workstation. There is the occasional "pause" twice a day if I happen to be playing when the server does its thing but I never remember a real crash. I may switch to 2008.

Is the engine for Witcher2 similiar regarding its performance with these OS'.

The Witcher 2 engine is totally new and different. You can't extrapolate from TW1's Aurora engine. I doubt you will find anybody else who is trying to run it on a server OS, so you're on your own. That said, there is nothing about the OS that would prevent the graphics drivers from installing or the game from running.

If you have trouble with 2003 SBS bogarting your system, you will have bigger trouble with 2008, which is a resource hog of epic proportions.

Thanks for the replies; I will just have to try it first. I will keep all posted after I install and play (already pre-release ordered and received) in the near future......my next slow time.
Don't know. You'd probably be more limited by driver choices than anything else really.

Drivers shouldn't be a problem. 2003 Server, use XP drivers. 2008, use Vista or W7 drivers. 64-bit 2008R2 requires signed drivers, same way 64-bit W7 does.
nvidia don't make xp drivers anymore btw

Baloney. Or maybe the 270.61 driver that I got for my old XP rig with a 7800 GS (yes, nVidia still supports XP and all GPUs back to the 6000 series) this week was a figment of my imagination.
those drivers are really out of date, and anyway their the last xp drivers nvidia made.

I installed my copy on the server and I played about one hour+ to get a feel for the game. I was able to play without one crash and in X-Fire! I had to reduce the graphic settings, however, to 1280 x 720 - from 2560x1920 in order to run with all of the ATI settings on highest quality. No pauses etc. but note that the two 5770 cards are using an old version (10.11) due to other sw limitations.

In conclusion I cannot see a reason why this program cannot run in Win 2003 at this time.

Thanx to all.

270.61 is the current WHQL driver for all platforms, dated April 18 2011. It is not out of date.

The current beta driver, 275.67, dated May 17, 2011, is also for Windows XP.

Stop spreading misinformation. Somebody who does not look behind your claims might actually believe them and make an expensive mistake.

I have completed my first run through with the game running on Win Server 2K8 R2 Enterprise.

It runs perfectly.

That is wonderful news if I ever have to switch from 2003. If only some of the other devs would realize there are those of us who often use server OS for the occasional game and do a quick test. Hat's off to CDProject
