I figured that it was safe to sell anything marked as junk since it was the equivalent of "vendor trash" and wasn't required for anything. _However_, it turns out that some crafting recipes do indeed use junk as ingredients

*MINOR SPOILER*

A kayran trap, for example, requires 1 x Iron Frame, which is tagged as junk.

So you might _not_ want to indiscriminately sell all junk - it would be nice to have a list of junk that one should keep just in case...

P.
I think it gets tagged as junk after you defeat the kayran.

I've played through the game 2 times already and i'm playing it a 3rd time now, and I haven't found any use for any of the junk items.

Ah OK; it's possible that I haven't actually picked up any iron frames yet (I have the crafting recipe, but haven't defeated the Kayran yet).

Cheers,

P.
Either way, even if you do sell the iron frame that you acquire in loredo's estate, you can buy the frame from cedric (but only if you sold yours already, afaik).
Similarly, many "Epic" items are not epic e.g. lesser enhancement mutagens.

Not even rare enough to be called epic. The common/magical/epic classification is utterly pointless.
I never found an iron frame. Not when I had the crafting diagram and looked for it, anyway. Cedric didn't have one, either. In the end I decided I didn't need it or the game wouldn't have let me progress. So I went and defeated the Kayran. I'll try again for the trap on a second playthrough, but I hope it's not wasted money for the diagram...

Trap just completely cuts off one of the tentacles (it's used like an yrden), which saves you 5 seconds from hacking at it instead.
You don't really need to build the trap but if you do make sure to use it because it will take up 1 weight while not being able to sell or drop the trap after defeating the Kayran.

Well, that really IS a waste of money and work, then. I think I'll pass next time. :)

SPOILER

The only Iron Frame in the game is acquired by sneaking around the back of Loredo's mansion in Indecent Proposal.

From what I have seen so far, junk is junk. They are not worth that much too. Some monster parts and mutagens sell for way more than those (esp. considering how light some of those parts are). For example, a certain "valuable figurine" sells for 6 orens. Wth.

As far as I know, no item that is tagged a quest item , gets re-tagged after the quest ends. Just click on the quest item sorter and you'll see things there for all chapters, and you can't get rid of them.
The entire thread is meaningless, since you can't sell the Iron Frame anyways.

Reviving tis thread:

So, is all junk just junk? Is junk a nod to Dragon Age Origins where you collected random items to use as "bribe" for your allies once you found out the items were somehow connected to their personal stories? I have various rings, medallions, necklaces and figurines in my junk bag, not to mention wire, chains, rope ladders and other stuff. Are those items completely unimportant quest wise?
