Okay, so... both videos and images show with very little doubt that Geralt is able to retrieve one of his swords in the prison... however, no matter how long I search I'm only able to find a blackjack, and later on a club. Which is fine with me, I have no trouble defeating the guards... but does this mean I end up going through the rest of the chapter with a club?

Second: images show him interacting with other prisoners, but I haven't been able to do so. What?

Yeah, and third: how do I see in the dark, in the prison, without being able to access my potions?

Thanks to anyone who can enlighten me, since I'm a little confused, here, with all these pictures telling me I'm doing something wrong.

From what I remember, the dark is good. I went through sneaking and stunning every guard from behind. I don't remember having any potions since I have no equipment to start with.


You get all of your things back after you escape from prison, so no worries. I think you can grab a sword from the special room with the executioner if you go and battle him.

The only prisoners I interacted with were story characters, you can listen in on conversations and look at the other prisoners.

If you can't see in the dark, you need to calibrate your monitor because it's set awfully dark. Mine is colour calibrated (I'm a graphic designer) and the dungeon was easy to see in the dark.

I never found a sword, only a blackjack and a club like you.
However, regarding those videos, I think they were beta versions and things changed since then.
You should still be able to meditate and drink a cat potion, although maybe you find a cat potion somewhere.

Anyway, the point is, find your way out of there in whichever way you can and once you do reach Act 1, you'll have all your stuff back :)

...Useless, though, since it seems impossible to sneak up on guards and knock them out to avoid killing them, as the promotional trailers show... but on that account...

...The prisoner one: I was able to find the options to "calm prisoner", though they never seemed to do anything when I moved the yellow bar all the way up, and the options were random so you didn't always get that option.

...It mystifies me where Geralt found a sword and armor in the prisons, before helping Aryan to the exit.

If you choose the low way to go, you'll find a halberd like weapon. Concerning sneaking up, it is possible, just have to time it right, so they turn away, and don't have your weapon drawn. If you draw the club, you stop sneaking. The sword you find at the very end of the stage in a weapon rack, though not much good it does.. can sell it at least.

Just ensure that the guard is walking away from you and walk towards his back. As soon as you are in range, you'll get a tip to rt-click for a silent kill.

Taking the time to turn out the torches in the area really helps.

And sure - you can turn up the gamma and brightness for those dark areas and see reasonably well, but the cat potion lets you see through walls. Now, if they'd just get rid of that idiotic thumping sound while the Cat Potion is active.... ;)

What bugged me is there's a few rooms with axes and swords hanging on the walls, and guards with swords! Why in the hell can't I pick 'em up? Because CD Projekt says NO!

Oh, well :P. It's fun beating on guards with a blackjack, anyway.

The blackjack is great for silent knockouts and the club that you can pick up is pretty decent in an actual fight at that point.

hunvagy: I did find the pole-arm weapon, which wasn't a bad weapon at all... no sword, though, or armor... but no big deal.

As for the sneaking up... see, I tried going in without a weapon (since if you have a weapon on you the game automatically puts it in your hand when you go into combat, and you can't drop it once it's equipped)... but whenever I tried hitting these guys from behind I always die near-instantly, not much time for signs. Seems a barefisted and barebacked fighter is far inferior to a well-armed and armored guard, even if the former's a Witcher and the latter is just some schmuck pulled off the street.

Doesn't matter anyhow, considering what happened to the place afterward.

Poor prisoners... sigh...

If I do another playthrough I'll try another tactic and see if it changes the game at all.

Hmm.. did you use right click to knock them out? No fighting involved then, Geralt just smacks them cold.

There is actually a sword in there, though the exact location escapes my memory. Boots, pants, and gloves as well. It's certainly in the second half of your prison break though.

Yep, probably there was a useful sword in a pre-release versione, 'cause also in the game guide it's stated that you found your/a sword when you actually find a small blackjack.

Also there is reallu a sword, but just at the end of the prison, near the exit door.

Yeah, there is a sword in a rack right at the end, to get it you have to confront the guards I think, going the blood bath way. I went stealth to get Roche's approval.
