AudreyWinter: Thank you!
Now you were faster than me, I just had found your tutorial and was reading it. ;)
But NOW I need a little after dinner workout slaying some nekkers first, because head is full of cheese right now. Then I'll try and redo the mod.

One thing: since the file already tells me, that the file is saved in DXT1, do I really need the converting step? Can't I just edit the dds and save it again?
avatar
eRe4s3r: Yes you can do that, in fact its only in there because you need an extra plugin to open dds files in photoshop and its a hassle.

Actually though, i am not entirely sure if just dragging the tga file on nvconvert actually makes a dxt1 file again. So editing the dds file and saving it properly might be the better idea. I am gonna test this now ;p
I do have the dds tools for PS. Probably not installed yet, but that's done quickly. But it is good to know which specific format it is saved in, because those tools are not even able to read that information (I can't believe they never made a better version of that). So you need another tool to find that out and guess what? I know of two tools which read the files and the two often have a different opinion about which format it actually is. Brilliant. I just know, that blasted dds format exists only to confuse modders. ;)
just wanted to say, if you follow my post step-by-step (with or without the tga step) you can change the hair texture in game, and all you need to do it is put the xbm file in the right place ;) Black haired geralt it is.. (no, not releasing that, was just a test ,p)

And yes, dragging the tga on nvcompress actually creates a working dds texture again. Awesome ;p

Looks kinda cool, I think. Some might like it. Suuure you don't wanna release?

Heh, the purists would hack me to pieces ;p And yeah, am sure. Its not something i want to release, it doesn't look the way it want it to look for one.

Sorry to bother y again but what tool i need that works like nvdecompress and compress for an ATI card ?
I miss the white hair, so I am interested in this mod. Can you print screen and then paste in an editor?

One of the issues with them making Geralt older and meaner looking (because of fan outrage, and rightfully so) is that they made his hair have grey in it.

You need to check the nvdecompress.exe in the command line (Start -> Run... -> cmd ) and look what command disables CUDA - that'd be the only thing ATI cards don't have. You can skip this step entirely though, google dds nvidia tools and use them with photoshop. If you don't have photoshop, and it doesn't work even with command line then alas, i gotta say thats exactly why i have an nvidia card ;)

As I don't have an ATI card i can't help you much.

Oh, if print screen would make a shot, I would be a happy bird! Alas, it doesn't. But fret not, I'm working on the other mod version, which will allow me to use Fraps to make a screenie. And make you not use TexMod. Computer is currently unpacking the file I need to work with - "takes a while" is an understatement *g*. As soon as that's done, I'll get to work.
It just goes to show that time passes faster when you have fun. I was watching a movie while it unpacked.. so maybe it took 1hour or more. But you can't say i didn't warn ye, it does take a while :D

I edited the post with the steps a bit more to make it more obvious, this is a bit "finicky" but i don't like using bat scripts for these things (i like to have control over each step) anyway, i can't wait for more mods ;) I think most of the things are now explained, i just wish someone would detail how to edit the gui and the scripts that regulate the gui (i want to add enchament slots on boots and gauntlets, but it doesn't work (the slots work, but it complains that its not "armor")..

anyway ,) The Weekend is nearly over and the world didn't end (HAHA), so yeah...

Oh shit! Over all this witchering we missed the apocalyse! Well, bummer. :D

Bad news: can't do it. PS insists "wrong file" and when I try to use the nvdecompress.exe, it says it's not compatible with my Windows version (Seven). After all this unpacking and reading tuts... damn.

I didn't find any bat files in the converter btw. - did you already delete them in the version you uploaded?

Another thing I noticed, there is only ONE texture file. But hair and face are TWO textures and I need to edit both. What now? I send you my edited textures and you paste them on the files, YOU obviously are able to edit? Then it's your mod, I delete this topic and call it a fail... :(

Enchantment slots on boots and gauntlets? And trousers? Yes, please. Maybe the guy that made the tooltip mod can provide documentation about gui editing?

Mhh, wait, photoshop tells you the dds files are "wrong" ? ;/ If you upload your edited face and hair as tga (compress it please!) to filesmelt i'll convert them for you to xbm , you can still call this your mod, you did the textures after all. :D

And yeah, theres 2 textures, but i only explain 1 file for a reason, in the same folder is a geralt h file and a geralt c file, c for hair, and h for face. (hehe) But for my uses i just needed hairs.

Sidenote: Yeah theres no bat files, i meant cmd files (they are kinda like bat files, sorry bout that)

Sorry, took the bat literally. No matter.
Thing is, whan you only edit the ponytail, you get a bad mismatching hairline. Like a bad dye job. So I did the second file and decided that I wanted the facial hair to match as well.

Here they are: http://filesmelt.com/dl/whitewolf.tga_.zip

And here it is back http://filesmelt.com/dl/whitewolf1.zip ;)
The 2 files need to be put in X:\The Witcher 2\CookedPC\characters\player\model\head

And screenshots!

Anyway, that was a "one time only" service ;)

Too bad, because I forgot to include the texture for the raven black hair for you: http://filesmelt.com/dl/WITCHERblack.zip - boy, he looks DEAD!

Thanks for the conversion, I'll go and make screenies now. :)

Glad to be of help ;) And thanks for that, now if only the face had a matching texture for that!, haha ;p But its still only my personal preference, not gonna release the black hair ;p But you can if you want.. i might do the xbm stuff one last time for this (i will have to anyway if i want to use it myself! ~.~)
