Just a thought since at the time of writing The Witcher 2 is on Steam Sale for $22.49, but I have a copy of The Witcher 1 through GoG.

You really shouldn't ask your question in the topic line. It cuts off so it's hard to see exactly what you're asking.
I'm assuming the problem is that you're not sure that you can import Geralt from a GOG version of Witcher 1 into a Steam version of Witcher 2? You should be able to, and I've never heard of any problems with that. Even if you can't, you could just redeem your key here: http://www.gog.com/en/witcher2/backup/
