I have the Witcher 2 in my library from when I bought it on launch and I'm sure it is the enhanced edition (I mean, we all got that upgrade for free right?) except for the fact that it says it is the AUS edition. I remember reading earlier that on GOG it became region free and people who own the game are able to use the uncensored for free.

Am I wrong on this? Do I need to buy this to override the fact that I have the Australian version? Is the only difference between the two THAT ONE SCENE that was cut? I didn't think I'd need to buy it again, but now (and for a while) the GOG store pages have said I don't own the Witcher 2 and give me the option of buying it.

Let's say I buy it again during the sale - to get it uncensored, to support the devs, whatever. Will I then have TWO copies showing up in my library? Kind of annoying, but I guess I could live with it.

This is just strange since I thought I opted in for getting the region free version back when the devs made ALL versions DRM-free... oh well.

Okay, this is a little complicated, but I'll try to be concise. When the game was released, the Australian version got the censored version because of some weird law that had to be accounted for (apparently). They got around this by getting rid of Geo-IP, which meant that you could theoretically set your location to somewhere other than Australia and get the uncensored version.

Then there was a lawsuit by Namco-Bandai that resulted in GOG having to reinstate Geo-IP, which means that it's not possible to be in Australia and buy the uncensored game (without proxies and some other grey area stuff, at least).

That being said, none of that matters. The game is designed so that the only difference between the censored version and the uncensored version is two files that you can get from anywhere. If you want to be super awesome, you can get them from me. The last two links in this post still work, and the links in this post are also still up. Just drop those in your CookedPC folder and you have the uncensored version. Only two quests are affected, and it's recommended to be playing before the end of Chapter 1 (one of the censored quests doesn't get flagged if you add it in after and is still potentially censored).

I don't know if that's even possible. If you did, then I'd ask for a refund on the second copy since it would just be censored again. Have to admit, I'm a little curious about what would happen, but that's the same kind of morbid curiosity that secretly hopes that a car full of C4 gets hit by a passing train. Usually a pretty clear sign of a bad idea.

EDIT: By the way, the game showing up to buy again is just a weird bug. Seems to happen to people with the Australian version more than anyone. In fact, I haven't checked, but it's possible that everyone who has complained about this had the Australian version. Just one of those weird GOG bugs, like second attachments not always showing up and GOGmixes sometimes being repeated over and over and over on a game's page.

I'm not so concerned with uncensoring it since that is fairly simple to do. I mainly wanted to know why it was not showing up as owned in the store pages. If it is just a bug and I can't ACTUALLY buy it again, then all is well.

I have had it since it was first released & it has never shown up as game owned, but it is on my account page for download.
