I am slightly confused regarding mutagens. How do i use them?

The manual tells me to enter meditation mode and apply them to mutagen slots in the character overview, but i cannot seem to find anything there.

Any help would be appreciated :)
On the character skill tree you will see a lil dot on some of the skills, right click it and then your mutagens will appear at the right of the screen. What i wish to know is if i can replace them later , i haven't used mutagens because of that :)
Thanks :)

You cannot replace them afterwards.

Unless there opens a way further into the game but it seems quite unlikely.
Thank you!
Mutagens had me confused as hell,I must have looked at my skills about 10 times without seeing the TINY dots...that could be a lot more visible...I seem to have a LOAD of Mutagens too,way more than I could ever use(chi ching!) and only nearing the end of Chapter one now...
Oh and by the way...Rpg store love your Avatar :) GO FOR THE EYES BOO GO FOR THE EYES!!!

I'm in the same boat, I have loads of mutagens and they all look l like better ones will come latter but if we use them now that will mean less mutagen slots for the good ones.
It's quite out of character for CDPR to make mutagens just laying around. Everyone will wait for the greater mutagens anyway, so they will sell the lesser ones. WTF? Why would ANY merchant buy witcher mutagens? And who would buy a witcher mutagen from the merchant?
And why are mutagens dropping like candy from every second random nekker? I agree, this part wasn't well thought out. Using anything other than a greater mutagen seems to be a waste of a slot.

Fortunately, they aren't game-shatteringly powerful.
You can't replace mutagens later? Fffffffuuuuuu
that sucks you can't replace. good thing i didn't know how to use them and figured they were like last game adn was waiting for a potion

but kind of wish a guide was up now so that i could determine which mutigins i want to use

There is a guide included in the GoG version (extra content) - don't know which version you bought. Can't tell you how much they explain the mutagens though, since it was too spolierish for me to read it.

yea i got guide, but same as you didn't want to open to not be spoiled.

would like to see a list of mutagins and their stats they give. NOTHING MORE

then i know to wait for them, whenever that may be. and as soon as i get one of those i chose, i can use it.
I currently don't know how Mutagens work, exactly... Have picked one up in Inventory, but haven't used it yet. Going from the Game Manual (There's no mention of Mutagens in the Game Guide) we're told that "The mutation cannot be reversed" and that mutagens come in 3 forms (lesser, basic, greater).

However, I would reckon that, although a Mutation cannot be reversed, a different Form can be applied. For example, if you apply a Lesser Range Mutagen at one point, then pick up a Greater Range Mutagen, you'll be able to apply that Form over the one currently used, but you can't change the type of Mutagen (Ranged) to something else. So, Mutagens can't be changed, but can be upgraded. Like I say though, don't know if this is the case for definite... if anyone has a Lesser+Basic mutagen of the same type (or Basic+Greater) they could test it out, see if this is the case.

Also, there is a List of the Mutagen types, in the Instruction Manual (do people no longer read these things?). It doesn't give specific stats, just the types of Mutagen that are available.

I have a lesser and a regular enhancement mutagen so I figured I'd try seeing if I could "upgrade" later. Here's what I discovered:

Once applied to an ability, you can't change a mutagen at all. It doesn't even give you the option to try mutating the ability again.

This seems like it was just a bad design choice, but lesser and basic mutagens seem like they can all just get sold while waiting for greater mutagens.
Thanks for testing that, GreyAutomaton. It's certainly a subject for modding, as ist should work, like Unacosamedarisa suggested; apply lesser mutagen as soon as you find it, upgrade later with stronger versions of the same mutagen. How did they even not think of that? ;)
