This may be a trivial question, but I've become increasingly curious about it. I read somewhere TW2 was made with a budget of around 8 million usd. That seems pretty small. So how many people actually comprise the team?

Not sure how updated this is, but until one of the RED team chimes in with something specific, it'll have to do.

Can't give you the exact number of people working here but that Linkedin page is about right. I mean it's between 50 and 200:)
You mean you don't know, or you're not allowed to say? Or it changes?

50 - 200 is a pretty large margin.

( or maybe your'e getting back at me for yesterday...)

Goes to show how much better games usually turn out when the development team is smaller, enabling a more intimate development environment. Really, almost the instant you start playing a new game, you can tell whether it's a labour of love (like TW1 and TW2 are), or if it's just a big compromised, strategically-developed (financially speaking) product, designed to rake in a quick buck, and which is made by people who don't actually care that much about the game itself to begin with. Thanks again for showing us how to do it right, CDPR. :)

I don't know the exact number, but error margin would be at around +5/-5.

It's over 100 though..
Ok, thanks for the info.

Yep. We have a saying that says "too many cooks ruin the dish" (roughly translated). And I've seen mod teams of ONE, who made for example entire main quests for Oblivion. Or some of the best adventures for The Witcher. Having a lot of people in a lot of departments only tears up the project. It leads to one hand not knowing what the other does. Like a cardiac specialist will not see that you're problem is you're blind, since it's not it's department. ;)

CDPR might not squeeze out a game a year, but you can enjoy their games for years. :)

Yes, exactly. I believe it's 'too many cooks spoil the broth' in English. :)

Beautifully said and so true. Not since the glory days of games like Planescape: Torment and Baldur's Gate II have I actually continuously kept restarting a game over and over again, each time I've finished, like I have with The Witcher 2. I'm positive that years from now, I'll still come back to the game and still consider it one of the best creations in RPG history.

50-200 sounds like 125 +-75. Where did the +5/-5 come from haha?

What I'm saying is I know the number which is almost spot on. I would be 5 people off. I can't give you that number though.

Because they would give you cement boots and throw you in the nearest river if you did?

Pretty much:)
CDPR often uses some halp from smaller studios from the 'hood.

How about if we guess some random number, if it's correct, you give a virtual nod, and if it's wrong you give a virtual shake of head... then you wouldn't be "giving out the number" per se :)
