So I've recently tried to play TW2 before I start TW3, however I cant seem to actually launch the game. I initially launch the title from GOG Galaxy, which then brings up TW2 Launcher, I then click Launch game, which brings up the Witchers medallion; nothing happens beyond this point and the only way I can get rid of it is by using a Task Manager.

I've tried disabling my anti-virus(s), checking the quarantine, and even doing a re-download/install of the game from the launcher. Any help on the issue would be appreciated :)

There is a problem with MSI Afterburner and Witcher 2. Are you using this programm? If yes, try to disable it or update it.

Yes I was using it, and thanks for the tip. However I've just tried resetting my clock back to stock (GPU and CPU), uninstalling afterburner, and restarted my PC; still no luck getting the game to launch, instead I click Launch game and it brings me back to the launcher menu, if I click again the issue I had earlier comes back.

Damn, sorry but this is the only reason I know. Perhaps you should contact GOG support.
I have the same problem as the OP. I bought W2 through Steam, and it's installed on a Windows 8.1 box. Launching the .exe directly as administrator brings up the launcher, but "launch game" simply brings up the witcher medallion for a few moments, which then disappears.

I'm not running MSI afterburner.

This has been my same problem for a while. Tomorrow I'm reinstalling Windows 7 so I can got through technical preview 10130->windows 7->windows 10 full, and in the process I'll be doing a clean reinstall of everything. Hopefully it's the beta that's the issue, but it has run everything else better than windows 7 so far so I'm not sure...

(I also tried reinstalling multiple times, including on gog galaxy. I also put everything on run as administrator (the launcher.exe, witcher2.exe, and steam) but that didn't work either. I noticed that I couldn't get my folders off of being read-only--might this be a cause of the issue?)

Thanks for any help
Same here, Bought on Steam, installed with GOG Galaxy.
Medallion on screen forever, using around 16Mb ram.

Nevermind, it works from the bin folder, good enough for me.

It's not afternburner causing the crash btw, it's Rivatuner's stats server (aka the overlay)
Any application with an overlay of sorts can and likely will cause W2 to crash.
It wouldnt surprise me at all if W2 got Galaxy's new achievement popup support it ended up crashing because of that too.
