It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I am trying to download the Installer now for several days. That is to say, I have a maximum DL speed of 650KB/s so the download will take about 9 hours.
First, I thought I have run into the 24 hour forced disconnection of my ISP. The download was canceled around 0:30am after 11,3 GB... I was quite sad.
The second time I thought my ISP disconnects me always at 0:30am... I started the download around the same time a before and did not think of anything. But I was a bit disappointed of my Internet connection.
Now (the third time) it again was canceled after 11.3GB. This time at a different time of day.

Pausing or resuming the download also does not work. The GOG Downloader is not yet (?) available for Linux.

Now I want to find out why this happens. I my opinion someone closes the connection after a certain time. It could be my ISP or it could be GOG.

If no one has other suggestions, I ask you (GOG) to split the one large 19GB file into several smaller files. That would help me (and maybe others?) a lot, while I try to validate my suspicion against my ISP. Or: make the linux installer download available by the GOGDownloader, so I can download the game with windows.

Or is there any hope that the GOGDownloader or GOGGalaxy will enable pause and resume for my downloads on Linux soon?

Thanks for reading,

Agemndon: Pausing or resuming the download also does not work.
Hi Agemndon,

If you use Firefox web browser you can use a download manager extension called DownThemAll:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/downthemall/?src=search

It allows you to pause and resume downloads. I use it for all my http and ftp downloads. However, I have never tried using it to pause or resume a download from GOG, especially a large download over a long duration (I use Windows and prefer to use the GOG downloader).

A GOG member has also created a GOG downloader for Linux:

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/lgogdownloader_gogdownloader_for_linux/post1

Also, you mention you have a maximum download speed of 650KB/s. Is that supposed to be ADSL1 or ADSL2? Because even for ADSL1, that speed seems a bit crippled. I wonder if your connection is a bit too far from the exchange and that could maybe be affecting your line stability (which could explain why you are getting occasional dropouts).

Hi getlogan,

thanks for the reply.
It looks like DownThemAll can resume the download. Thanks for the hint!
I used Chrome so far and it did not work that well...

I will try it again and hope for the best :)

Regarding my internet connection:
True, it is crippled. It was higher before (~1200KB), than suddenly it became slower. After questioning my ISP, it got a bit higher again and, after some weeks, it became slow as it is right now.
To what is the reason, I cannot tell. I never get a clear answer from my ISP and the rumor says, my ISP does cripple the speed on puropse. I will look into that if have a moment (and some nerves) to spare.

Hi again Agemndon,

This is a popular site to test internet connection speeds:

http://www.speedtest.net/

However, at least for me, I have found that the speeds measured through that site can vary greatly depending on which servers I pick. Also there is an android app for that site and the app seemed to be a bit buggy. It was basically reporting a zero upload speed, so probably best not to use the app unless they fixed it.

Downloading from GOG is actually one of the few ways I can even achieve my max download speed. GOG's servers offer high speed downloads and like DownThemAll, the GOG downloader can make multiple connections to download multiple pieces of the games at the same time. Using the stock download manager in web browsers like Firefox and Chrome, you'll only make a single connection per download and most file servers will have bandwidth limits per connection.

Also, just be aware, sometimes the ISP cannot help with download speeds. For instance, in Australia one company owns all the phone lines for the whole country. They actually own all the physical infrastructure, but allow (they get paid) other phone companies and ISPs to provide their services using these lines. The more people in my neighborhood that download using torrents or stream videos from youtube, the higher the possibility of network congestion. If more people move into the neighborhood and start downloading the whole neighborhood's max speed will drop. The only way to fix this is to upgrade the exchange equipment. Unfortunately, this won't happen unless there is big enough demand in the area. My ISP is also different to the company that owns the exchange, so my ISP would not be able to directly do anything about it.

I also know that sites. And the give me thae same result. 650KB/s max.
I might try a different ISP soon.
