Hello,

I've discovered something. Because of the horrible save system that this amazing game has, the HD is always reaching hight percents of fragmentation, and we know fragmentation is not good for a system perfomance, so it's necessarely to keep defraging the disk.

I have Windows 7 x64 and usually my frag percent is around 2% at max. Today i checked it and i got surprised when i saw the fragmentation percent: 22%. I guess this happens because the game is constantely creating save game files and we keep constantely deleting them.

dont know if its the same thing but when installed it also needs a good defrag as it looks like it got shovelled onto the HD from 30 feet.

maybe you could set the save folder on a different partition or hd ?

Are you certain it's the game that's causing your fragmentation? I've been playing the game since it came out and I have %0 fragmentation on Windows 7 64bit.

There are enough serious tests that show that defragmentation on NTFS formated volumes doesn't change any performance at all.

It is merely a marketing thing to sell unnecessary software.

This might be not true on FAT/FAT32 Volumes, but you can totally forget about fragmentation on NTFS volumes, because from a technical point of view it is total nonsense.

My saves are on a different drive to the game, my glitchiness started when I installed the 1.1 patch, damned if I can figure out what it's done.

In case nobody knows about google,there is NO FILE SYSTEM ON EARTH that doesnt fragment with constant use.
if you delete a file what the hell do you think happens to the empty space left ?.

I never defrag. I guess I'm just very lazy. My hard drive is 1TB and it would take ages.

a fragmented drive is a disgusting thing to behold,its like leaving on your underwear for 6 months of bad currys and laxative chocolate...

show your drive some love....treat it like your woman,fill it with stuff and slap it now and then,and its loyalty will overflow.

though like a woman it wont try and kill you in your sleep or wreck your fricken car going to a shop,or drain your credit card and hit the power lead from the pc when cleaning or throw away game manuals saying "i thought you finished with it"

I agree. You shouldn't need to defrag all that often, but after alot of usage and installs and uninstalls, it will need it. You should also run something like CCleaner or atf cleaner form time to as well to get rid of the junk files that tend to pile up over time.

Thanks for the info. However, I believe that Windows 7 defragments the hd automatically -- but that's only if you leave your computer on all day and night. I don't leave it on, but for those who do this shouldn't be a problem. Unless I'm wrong, of course.

Edit: I guess I don't go to bed before the scheduled defrag takes place. My computer is 0% fragmented and I think it's because the defragmenter runs automatically in the background - I don't even notice that it's on.

I still remember friend of mine many years ago, who claimed that after defrag the levels on some puzzle like game were getting easier to beat, because the cubes are not that scattered lol

Another thing to consider is especially with the new huge hard drives it takes quite some time to defrag and the HDD is working heavy for hours. I bet it shortens the life of the HD.

Defragging alleviates/prevents stuttering, too. I use Defraggler on game folders after installing games..it lets you defrag individual folders so you don't have to go through a whole 2 hour thing each time or whatever and burn out your HD in the process.

yeah the truth is people know fuck all about computers. defrag helps, but not to the degree everybody claims.
