Not to answer your specific question, but you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO PLAY BOTH SIDES.

You only get half the story playing one side. This is not the normal superficial choices in video games where picking a side just changes a few variables. It's getting the other half of the story.

You'll learn it once you get to that point of the game. Despite of the choices made between Roche and Iorveth, or any of the other choices for that matter.
