Hi everyone

I have the gog version and did the auto d/l of 2.0 which worked fine. Went to install it and it looked like it was stuck on the 'finishing installing' screen, with a full green progress bar. 1 hr like that and i decided it had hanged. Tried a few more times with the same effect.

Then I went to official website to d/l the 1.35 - 2.0 version. Exactly the sam effect. Tried right-click admin mode and same effect again. No matter what I do I can't seem to get it to complete the install. I need to ctrl-alt-del it to get rid of it in the end.

Does anyone have any advice on how to solve this?

Thanks

If you open the Windows Task Manager, you'll see that a Critical Error window has opened, but is hidden behind the "finishing installing" screen. Once you click OK on the Critical Error window, everything will close properly, so the process hasn't hanged, it's just the part that requires your acknowledgement is hidden.

Now for the Critical Error itself. It says "game installation directory could not be found". I don't know what to do about this. I've tried putting the patch inside my Witcher 2 game directory, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

Is it significant that I've not installed The Witcher 2 in it's default director, instead I've installed it in a 'games' folder on my second hard drive - D:

Is this Critical Error caused by the patcher only scanning my C: drive for my Witcher 2 directory?

Same problem here, it hangs on "finishing installation" and the "critical error" dialog hidden beneath it. The game is installed on D:\ drive in "Games" directory. I've already tried to reinstall the game but it does not make any difference. The launcher downoads all the < 2.0 patches, then it asks if I wish to download "patch2", I confirm it and here we go again - it's all the same.

Same problem here "cannot find the installation directory"! Had this problem with 1.11, but that turned out I needed the ROW version, not ENG version!

UPDATE: Got the 2,0 patch to install by running it from inside the installation folder. be ware, it takes 50 minutes, and during patch depression I thought it has froze a couple times!

hmm maybe i should just re/dl the whole game from gog, which is presumebly already version 2.0. i've tried too many times different things and its still not working.
OK UK_John's trick did it for me. I copied the manual update file into the Witcher 2 installation folder and it went through without a hitch. Phew.

Thank you.
I am getting a different error. It says "installed version is either in valid or incomplete"...

Getting the same error and I have tried installing it from every directory I can think of. Tried playing and the music at the title screen is just the cymbals. Uninstalled and tried all over again? Same issue. WTF??? This is the best RPG in a decade and now it seems totally unplayable?? Some please put together a VERY SPECIFIC instruction set on what we have to do to get this running properly. (I am on Windows 7 64-bit.)

Where the heck is the "installation directory"? I've tried running the 2.0 patch where I've run the older patches and I still get the error message. Is the directory in the Program Files (x86)/GOG.com/The Witcher 2 or in Documents/Witcher 2? Neither has worked yet.
I ran the gog patcher and it hung at finishing installation like others said. So I closed and tried running the gog patacher again and got the "installed version is either in valid or incomplete".

Then I noticed there was a new patcher_1.3.5-2.0.exe file in the main folder (I've got it installed in a custom folder, but for the person asking earlier it should be in your Program Files folder). Is that all the gog patcher does, download the new patch into your folder without running it? Anyway, I manually ran that new exe and it seems to have worked.

Same error here. Game is fully updated to v1.35 on Windows 7 SP1 x64. v2.0 patch won't recognize that it's installed no matter where I run it from. A new method to patch up to v2.0 would be nice.

I have a retail version of the game, so installed it wherever I wanted to! Surely you can use "Search" or check the properties of the desktop shortcut to find the folder? :)

I'm the same as others.I have Win 7 64x. Installed Witcher in program files.DL'd patch from GOG.com and from TheWitcher.com but none of them worked so far from any location...

I never had so many problems with any games in m life as with both Witchers...
