Finally, a solution!! ^____^

After trying several things I found in the internet (not to mention that nothing really helped) I tried another tool for a framerate + GPU temperature OSD (MSI Afterburner) - and it showed me something else, too: For some reason the memory and GPU clocks weren't at max but somewhere between 2D- and 3D clock settings.

So I activated "Overdrive" in the CCC and stayed with the standard clock rates - and voilá, game is running smoothly as it should (although in some areas it still looks kinda laggy even with FPS >40) =)

I dunno if this helps with all cards / if NVIDIA cards have a similar solution, but I guess its worth a try =)

BTW: I cannot mark my own post as "solution" >.<

Well this is the second time I'm ever complaining on GOG about a release (first time was DK2 ;) )

My System:
Intel Q9300 @ 2.5Ghz
4GB DDR2 RAM
AMD/ATI 4870 (1GB)
Game running on an SSD

Problem is simple:
Regardless of what I do, my framerates are @ 20-30 at best.
For testing I set EVERYTHING on the lowest possible setting and run on native resolution of 1920x1200 and performance is REALLY bad.

For comparison:
I can play Crysis 1 on FullHD and max. settings and even 2x AntiAlias (Crysis 2 is even faster), Metro 2033 is fine on FullHD and max settings, too. In both cases FPS are >35 at all times.

I reinstalled the game, got newes drivers, tried every tip I found here and elsewhere (like changing desktop resolution prior to a lower one, got a changed dxd9.dll) etc. etc.
NOTHING of em worked at all.
Even when changing res. to 1280x800 the FPS are @ 30-40 in some scenes, but the game still feels "sluggish" and animations seems to be strange at times.
Oh and BTW this resolution sucks!

So wheres the problem in Witcher 2 EE??

Unfortunately I don't have the non-EE version anymore on my system even though I owned the game for some time now -> And I never installed it to see if the problem is with some of the patches / EE version.

Are there any other tips someone can share? Any Ideas of what might be the problem? Any information about CDP working on a patch regarding this??

Have try turning off Ubersampling? If that still didn't help, i suspect your GC is the weak link. What brand of your graphic card? Be specific. If it's the 512MB model, then you should forget about 1920 resolution for any new games. It simply don't have enough juice.

My system specs is roughly same as you, in fact i'm using 5 years old processor (Q8300) the only difference is my graphic card, GTX460 1GB which give me consistent >40fps on 1440x900, occasionally drop to 30fps at certain area (mostly outdoor).

Oh, and you did say you owned the game for quite some time. What about the performance of the game before the EE patch?

wormholewizards: Have try turning off Ubersampling?
As stated, every setting turned off/set to lowest rate.

Yeah, I would believe the same - if I was not able to play e.g. Metro 2033 with max settings...
Also I used big texture mods (4096 textures) and stuff like that in many other games, too - so until now not a single game was limited by the GDDR...

BTW: It's the 1GB version from Sapphire (slightly overclocked from Sapphire, too) [updated]

Unfortunately I never installed/played the game until now. First I didn't have time, then I saw that there was an EE coming, so I waited until now (and deleted the old version prior installing the new EE...)

One thing I can add (may helps others):
Performance is increasing a bit (maybe 20%?) when disabling ATI-AI and lowering MipMap settings one step.
But still, it is not really playable with a res higher than 1280x800 -.-

Some user reporting performance issue after the patch. Look around at this forum and Witcher 2 official forum. Currently, no clear solution available.

Maybe there will be some fix in future. Though my in-game performance is still the same, but i notice some fps drop during cut scenes. Not much, maybe it's placebo.
The performance for me is rather bad too and it seems strange because the difference between ultra and low settings is only about 10 fps.
On ultra with uber sampling turned off I get around 25 fps.
On low I only get 35.
It just seems wrong that it's such a small difference.

specs are
Intel i7 860 2.8GHZ
Radeon HD 5870

If you're suggesting to manually download the game anew instead of using the patcher or gog downloader - I did.
Otherwise one or two lines of text won't kil anyonel ;)

I has a very similar problem with a similar CPU and memory, but nVidia card. I had to go down into the MB and set the the PCIe slot to the correct value. I now get frame rates of 55-60.

JOY!
