Dear GoG, I just completed Witcher 1 and want to buy Witcher 2 from you however the game is on sale for 39.99 on Steam. I'd prefer to buy from GoG but 10 dollars is a lot for me since I am on a tight entertainment budget. Any plans to lower the price to compete with Steam?

Please don't hijack this thread telling me how GoG > Steam, Steam sucks, etc etc..

The Steam version has an issue with patching where you must download the full 10gb every patch, this is why I want to go with GoG. But I agree, other than that problem Steam is awesome :)

Nope. They only said GameStop, Steam and Amazon. There was no mention of Direct2Drive, GoG, GamersGate and other distributors.

That said, there's nothing stopping them putting the GoG release on a discount for the length of E3, we'll just have to wait and see.

I thought I heard them say that only the U.S. customers would receive the $10 discount.
Maybe they will clarify shortly.

EU and UK don't get the Steam price drop. Only US. Steam had no Securom, just the dummy files. The actual Steam DRM wasn't removed. It was just a patch method failure, and part of the blame lies with CDProjekt Red.

Speaking as a Canadian with a Steam account, Steam lists The Witcher 2 as being $49.99usd for me, so it does appear to be a US only promo.

I heard that on the podcast but didn't catch the reason, and I am waaaay too lazy to listen to it again. : ) I didn't think it was a Steam only promo though, seems I remember a couple of other distributors mentioned.

Hmm...come to think of it, I'm a "murkin" and it doesn't help me out at all...yeeah, I'll just be over here whining about that 10 bucks if you need me.

The digital version is at £24.99 at game.co.uk. That's 28 euros (equivalent to 40$ US).
If you live in Europe, you can buy there.

I'm from Finland so I use euros. So I thought that 49,99 e was pretty steep 'cos I don't have a job. =) And I also created paypal account mostly for gog and for this game. But it didn't seem such a bad deal in my end because they indeed gave two redeem codes. So I got three games. Well, I could have taken the obvious choices (baldur or torment) but I got two worlds and enclave. =) Anyway I don't feel ripped off. And it seemed that I "only" paid a little over 45 e. Just downloaded and installed. Time to see how does my good 'ol computer manages.
And when I looked finnish retailer price.. It was that 49,95 e.

Yep, same here in Singapore. Still $49.99 even though we usually gets most of the stuff at prices equivalent to the US pricing. (Many of the discounted titles in the US still lists at full price on our end though)

On the patch issue, while some fault may be said to lie with CDPR (I heard it was due to the way they structured their file), I'd say a lot more lies with Steam's method of patching. The GOG version patch file was about 9MB downloaded, about 13MB extracted. Even the retail patch I heard was only about 1+GB large.
