I need to recover a family ring on behalf of a thief, but unfortunately I gave it to a prostitute and now I can't get it back or complete the quest, because when I talk to the crook the discussion automatically ends with a "goodbye" from the witcher

Is there any way of completing this quest?

According to the wiki: https://witcher.fandom.com/wiki/Family_ring , the problem is that this ring, even if it is necessary to complete a quest, is not categorized as a quest item so you can freely dispose of it and lose it forever. I hope the prostitute was worth it. ;)

Jokes aside, if you are willing to use console commands, you can get a new ring. This website explains how to enable console commands: https://fearlessrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11230

Since it took me some time to understand what to do, I took the liberty to write a more straight-forward guide, although all credit should go to the two websites I mentioned.

In short, you need a program called Cheat Engine: https://www.cheatengine.org/

And download the file witcher.CT that you will find in the Fearless Revolution post above.

Install Cheat Engine, open witcher.CT with it and open as well The Witcher Enhanced Edition (leave the game running). On Cheat Engine, click on the PC icon (the one below "File") and, under the "Processes" list, select witcher.exe (first screenshot). Then click "Open" and confirm "Yes" that you want to keep the current list.

On the lower part of the window you will see the "Description" g_cAuroraSettings.m_nDebugMode. Under "Value" you should see a 0. Double-click it, type 1 in the pop-up window (second screenshot) and press enter.

Now the console should be enabled. Go to The Witcher and, while in game (load your savefile) press tilde (in English keyboards it should be ~, but in other keyboard configurations the associated key could be ` or º, or even another one). After that, type anything else just to make sure it works: a white text should appear on the upper left corner of the screen.

Then, what is exactly the command to type? The Fearless Revolution page mentions several commands. For an item to spawn, it is dm_spawnitem. Now we just need to know the id of the ring. Thankfully the wiki lists it as it_ring_017. So just type dm_spawnitem it_ring_017 and press enter. If it works, you will see a "Success" message and the Family Ring will spawn in front of you (third screenshot). Pick it up!

I hope this helps. :)

Hey !
Thank for you for your well explained guide, however, when I try to launch the cheat engine program, it is detected as a virus by my Norton and I have done some research only to find posts confirming these famous warnings.

Have you ever used this program or is there an alternative?

Cheat Engine from the official site is perfectly safe.
It's open source, and has been for many years.
I did use the Cheat Engine program in my test (where the screenshots came from).
I asked around and discovered that the program available on the official website contained unmentioned software and made unwanted modifications such as changing the default browser.

I found an alternative to the problem I mentioned by installing a previous version of cheat engine

In conclusion, the guide you provided was very useful and enabled me to solve the problem I was encountering, thank you this topic is solved.
