After playing Chapter III for about thirty minutes, I decided to take a short break from the game. I really want to see the end of the story, but I needed a break from the drag. Chapter II took me way too long to complete. All the back and forth it felt like I had to do just to complete the required quests was a little annoying. Still, I plan on returning to the game in the near future. As I said, the story is interesting, and I want to see it through.
Just finished it for the first time! Five stars for me, no doubt. I'll surely start another playthough on hard, maybe with some combat mod just to try something different; Witcher 2 first, however :)
I played and finished the first game about a month ago. But I'm the sort that really tries to finish games i start...i actually played "Pools of Radiance- Ruins of Myth Drannor" all the way through when it came out- that just shows how persistent i am.
But the Witcher i only finished under duress- i almost stopped even during the end game sequence, i just became so fed up with being interrupted and dragged around by cutscenes all game long. I found it long, linear, easy and i haven't been so bored since i tried to play Diablo once. The choices in the game are really only an illusion of choice, the RPG character development seems to make no noticeable difference either. It's like the developers wanted to make a game like Soul Reaver but some marketing clowns told them "no RPG's are all the rage, you have to tack on character development." I think most people are playing for the "tittie cards" really. I have nothing against adult content, far from it, there are many solid NWN modules that do adult subject matter either tastfully or tongue in cheek as you prefer. The Witcher adult stuff is just 15 year old wet dream material.
I guess i am so dissapointed really because the reviews make it sound like the game solves world poverty and makes a great cup of coffee at the same time etc etc. I had my hopes built up too much. I did purchase the second game as well, but now i'm not sure if i'll even give it a try.
I finished it once, never even though about taking a break. I was an addict right to the end. I was playing on Normal, so I considered a Hard run-through, but I felt like much of the wonder of seeing events unfold, with your parts in them creating the paths within the story, would be lost on a second playthrough, so I never got past the first scene. Played all the adventure packs as well.
I'm currently on my 2nd playthrough. I was thinking about joining the Order of the Flaming Rose, but I'm not sure.

I recommend the Rise of the White Wolf, or otherwise known as, Powrót Białego Wilka. This mod completely remakes the interface, retextures many characters (not just the iconic ones), new cutscenes with Dandelion, and much more!

Glad to be a part of the GOG community! Pozdrawiam z Ameryki!

I finished TW 1 during the pre-order of The Witchter 2.
I'm currently playing them both for the second time because I don't rember most parts of the story line anymore.
(Potential spoiler warning, even though the game is old)

I made it right into the Cemetery after confronting the Striga and then let my game lie dormant for almost exactly three years (after checking the save game dates just now).

I picked it up again to finish from where I left off after winning TW2 in a giveaway and suddenly find myself facing the end game! I do this far too often - play a game for ages, then drift away to something else only to return and find if I had just put a little more effort in I would have finished the game ages ago!
I had to stop in Act 3 because my laptop could not handle it and began to seriously stutter. I got a new laptop for xmas and had my old save and was able to resume from that point. I just beat it and did enjoy most of the game. Its a long game too. The potion crafting system is a bit too complicated for the casual player. I can see how alot of people just gave up on the game. I focused mostly leveling up my fire spell and its was very powerful by the last chapter. It helped me deal with the large crowds of monsters really effectively.
